Sure. I’ve been there myself but it doesn’t make it safe or even legal. Drop you load and cause damage and the insurance company won’t pay based on the police report. They love to prove negligence. Often times the helicopter manufacturer or local airframe maintenance company will do tests like this in helicopters that have reached their expiration date. They then require a complete overhaul and inspection and have to be recertified. Where I worked we would have a few out at a time doing tests and observations.

What is "Air 1"? It was being escorted by a police helicopter yesterday.
