@ryanflorence I realized if I had a bit indepth knowledge of something I have worked on extensively like react. I tend to enjoy burning token more for it because i have some clarity. I need to find a sweet spot where I burn tokens to learn new stuff and produce output with learned clarity.

Pressure to have faster output by burning tokens but not allowed to burn infinite tokens and then looking at the output and hating it and realizing you could have done a better job with zero tokens but now the tokens are spent and time has passed is kinda killing me rn

@kyrylo Tailwind has powers you might want to fiddle a bit more to find it. Plain CSS is completely valid too. Its just that tailwind shines for the fast development speed with its utility classes. Also AI agents can use it efficiently since it don't have to context switch to css files.

Styling with Tailwind feels like being trapped in a cage. You get some speed at the start, but the moment you want real control you're stuck. Only pure CSS gives you raw power. Change one variable and the border-radius updates everywhere in your UI. That's it. You can't beat that.

@jamonholmgren The problem is I need experience to truly pay the tech dept. AI knows multiple solutions but most of the time it will pay it with something completely unexpected which instead adds more debt.

@ThePrimeagen Indeed alien. I have this powerful tool but everyday I learn different ways to use it sometimes optimal sometimes complete waste of a million tokens.

With AI what would have normally been 2 hours of study, 2 hours of white board, and about 6 hours of programming has been compressed into 7 2 hour sessions that have gone in the wrong direction. Truly alien technology

@0x45o Yes but it should be a small percentage who either never knew about github or are about to discover it. Why would I not use a free tool which can undo big blunders in code I or my agents do regularly in minutes.

@DevanshuXi I have threw of AI as my identity ever since I realized about skill atrophy. But would like these companies to accept AI tools as how we use calculators in exams during interviews. What if I use AI to implement 8 Queens ii while making complete sense and solve it in 2mins.

I’ve interviewed with a lot of companies lately whose founders spend half their time on Twitter saying things like “software engineering is dead”, “just use LLMs”, “AGI will replace coding”, etc. But the second the actual interview starts: “No AI tools allowed.” Then suddenly it’s: hard DSA, graph theory, geometry algorithms, distributed systems, low-level internals, system design, tradeoff discussions, concurrency, runtime complexity, memory optimization, and 4 rounds of “explain why your architecture decision is better.” I still remember there is this company that asked me to implement "N-Queens ii" under 10 minutes. Kinda funny honestly. If software engineering was truly “solved” by prompting an LLM, these companies wouldn’t be filtering candidates using some of the hardest CS fundamentals possible. Social media narrative and actual hiring reality are looking like two completely different worlds right now. A lot of the “engineers are finished” discourse honestly feels more like fundraising narrative, hype cycles, or market positioning than what companies internally believe. Because internally? Everyone still knows good engineers and problem solving skills are insanely valuable.

@mitsuhiko The lack of taking responsibility of the AI output by the business owner is a big problem. I don't blame the owner as they might be non technical. The real people that blog owner wants to talk to could be AI users but aware of its nuances like skill atrophy and such.
