The first use of “May the Fourth Be With You” within Lucasfilm came from none other than Randy Thom, Skywalker Sound’s director of sound design. Back in 1982, Thom was a sound recordist on location for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi in the Northern California redwoods. Arriving on set the morning of May 4, he happily assembled the pun in his head, and greeted none other than George Lucas and Harrison Ford with it! Here is Thom (right) during the Jedi production with fellow members of the production sound team David Parker (left) and Jim Manson.

@robhawkes Very cool I think my friend had her photo as a little girl in front of a load of R2s as her dad did SFX/VFX for Empire.

This is my grandad, he built the original R2-D2 for the first Star Wars film…
Jack was a master sheet metal worker, and was roped into using his skills on an obscure project to turn the sketches for the droid into something that could be constructed out of aluminium sheets.
I always knew he'd helped make part of R2-D2. However I only found this photo in recent years and have since learned that he was actually instrumental to the construction of the entire droid, particularly with working out how to machine the complex shapes like the dome and legs out of single sheets of aluminium.
He didn't just build one either, he ended up constructing a handful of the droids for various uses in the film. I still have no idea how he did it, especially without modern software and computer-controlled machining.
Unfortunately I never got to know him as he died when I was a baby, though I have a feeling we share a lot in common.
I also have his old Dragon 32 computer that he was using to learn programming in the 1980s, with reams of hand-written code that still works on the computer.

@uppilinotes 100%. A festival premiere was desired as a press kick starter and a way to celebrate with cast and crew (and it is t off the table yet!) but it has zero impact on the marketability for our film.

@EE Who regulates your late payment % fee charges? Maybe an investigation when you charged customers up to £100 per month for unlimited data yet no cell reception in lockdown, when people lost their families so phones were critical, needs also to be investigated? @MartinSLewis

@EE on a genuine missed payment their late payment charges on long standing customers who have paid thousands of pounds to this company for sometimes low or no signals especially in lockdown times - are atrocious - on a bill of £20 charge nearly 50% fees! @Ofcom @RachelReevesMP

@doodlestein @mitchellh Do they have easy ability for seniors to get in and out of the car ie handles?
English

@mitchellh It’s such a game changer. Just works, I don’t have to drive anymore. Just occasionally park. Every old person in America with money should get this just for safety reasons.

Traded in my 2020 Model S for a brand new plaid X before they discontinue it. Car is amazing, but the FSD hype is real. It blew away my expectations coming from the 2020 hardware. 95% of my miles are self driven in LA over the past month. I wouldn’t have even believed myself lol.
Even my wife who HATED autopilot on my prior car is totally blown away. She’s asked multiple times “did you drive?” And I say “not at all.” And she’s just like… wow.
Great job @Tesla for real. I’ve owned a Model S since 2013. This is my 3rd, first X (for me personally). Just fantastic.

Hey folks, today I’d like to take a moment to share something deeply personal with you.
Over the past few years, my family has walked through a season of profound love and loss. My son Mac was a remarkable young man, full of talent, heart, and purpose. An incredible musician and composer, in 2018 Mac was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer and our family entered a journey that none of us could have prepared for.
A little over two years ago I went to work writing my second book, sharing his story, as well as challenges and blessings our family experienced along the way, the love that held us together, the faith that sustained us, the grief that changed us, and how we continue to move forward daily with a strength we didn’t know we had.
And now Thomas Nelson and @People Magazine begin the next part of this journey.
This book is for Mac. It’s also for anyone who has faced loss, uncertainty, or hardship, and is searching for a line of hope in the middle of it. Something I feel I needed to do to help with my own healing.
I’m thankful to People for sharing the launch of our presale today. Graceful Warrior: The True Story of a Son, a Father, and a Family Who Carried Each Other Through is now available for preorder and will officially be released on Mac’s birthday, Nov 10th.
Thank you for your consideration.
