“Now I know how Joan of Arc felt” was actually crazy as hell for Morrissey to say. He absolutely doesn’t know how she felt

I don’t think people understand that global warming doesn’t mean “no cold weather ever.” It means a warming planet destabilizes weather patterns, causing more extreme weather. This has been explained for decades and people still don’t get it.

@grace_hawthorn @kaitybella you're literally fighting an argument that's not here. suggesting people are educated on their own bodies + healthcare and get preventive screening is not medical misogyny

@upsetcereal @kaitybella ... & over again, every time they go for a procedure. the burden of good practice is not on the patient. and we need to remember that. when it's men's health, there's no suggestion that men need to carry burden of advocating for themselves. medical misogyny is everywhere.

@upsetcereal @kaitybella no-one's suggesting we don't do both. i AM saying that putting all of the onus on women without holding HCPs to account isn't fair. not all women are in a position to advocate for themselves, many women do not want - & should not have to - disclose trauma over & over....

It is DEEPLY anti-woman and anti-feminist to encourage anything other than women NOT dying from cancer that is incredibly treatable. A “cold piece of metal” that does nothing to our bodies that they weren’t made to do (stretch SLIGHTLY) because that is the safest and most effective cancer screaming technique possible That is not torture. Cervical cancer deaths are torture. Leaving your children without a mother is torture. Having your vagina surgically reconstructed after cancerous tumors are removed is torture. Cold stretching is not torture.
Cassandra@lezfem

@yeriscandy19 @samplesoojin It’s not about the cervix. It’s about our vaginal walls being pried open by a cold piece of metal. It’s a torture device.

@grace_hawthorn @kaitybella you're right but the point is what do you suggest in the meantime. women just shouldn't bother going to the doctor, getting preventative care, or advocating for themselves at all until the system changes? like?????????? we can't do both?????

@kaitybella if a HCP cannot provide trauma-informed, compassionate care as the minimum, they're not fit to practice 🤷‍♀️ women deserve better.

@lachancenaomi27 I actually genuinely think some of these young women have been scared off by the way we talk about IUD insertions and don't understand that a regular pelvic exam is not the same thing

People acting like they’re holier than thou for telling young impressionable people with vaginas that “it’s okay to not get a Pap smear!” You can empathize with them and their reasons for hesitation without telling them to avoid medical care. Jesus Christ you people are nuts.

@Lunarlizdesigns it is stressful and there are definitely apathetic doctors! i dread the day my obgyn retires for sure. it's just one of those things we have to advocate for ourselves on. it sucks there aren't more options but there's definitely things we can ask for to improve the experience

my very first memory in life is being sexually assaulted so I do know that thanks, I also know that Pap smears are not anywhere as bad as you guys are insisting they are and that you’re scaring young people from getting them based on feelings instead of facts

also idk what kind of doctors you guys are going to but they've had warmers for speculums / lube for like a decade. it's usually not just going in cold and dry

i also have to get semi regular transvaginal ultrasounds and y'all, a pap smear is so much preferable to that shit. please just get swabbed it's free for almost everybody and takes 15 minutes and you have an excuse to treat yourself when it's over.

on the pap smear thing: yes it’s rooted in misogyny that cervical cancer screening hasn’t evolved past a pap while prostate cancer screening is becoming less and less invasive but also you do not want to fuck with cervical cancer.
