No, they exist to provide freedom of movement. They are a consequence of that freedom as the guy above said. Everything has trade offs, if you want your argument to be rational and valid like I mentioned above you need to acknowledge those trade offs, otherwise yes, you do just fall into the “I hate cars!” crowd. Until public transit can take me to an empty crossroads in Bumphuck, Nowhere, at 3 in the morning all by my lonesome, cars remain the freedom winner.

@Truthful_ast You have a valid argument for the first two. But being able to go where you want, when you want, with whom you want will always put the Freedom win on cars.

@moqarni_ @Harrlond @adcogfx @dalmaer Incongruences such as why a being outside of the universe would want to even convene with humans, considering the scale of the universe there is most likely other intellgient life, so what would make us so special to an all powerful entitiy.

@vectorgramm @Harrlond @adcogfx @dalmaer I would argue that faith is the only solution to the causality problem. There must be an uncreated creator who has a will in order to precipitate the Big Bang or whatever ultimately began everything. What are some logical Incongruences you have in mind?

@moqarni_ @Harrlond @adcogfx @dalmaer I would also agree that faith is the only true soloution to causality from now, but I suppose I place my faith in a theory and not a diety. I believe in an infinitely cycling universe as that works with the laws of thermodynamics and solves causality through infinite cycles.

@Zum_Gee @MarwaEldiwiny I think that most of these robotics companies (maybe not Neo as it seems kinda weak/slow) have the hardware, but eh software just seems impossible. Brett Adcock of Figure already admitted to using 1 million hours of training data for Figure and they still can only do a few tasks

@MarwaEldiwiny it would be ok if the hardware had full capability of doing chores and then a software update comes later that sorts it all out. but it doesnt seem like they even have the hardware required in these versions wtf

@moqarni_ @adcogfx @Harrlond @dalmaer Humans are special relative to life on Earth, though other animals show signs of being able to use language and large social groups to a much lesser extent. There are likely alien intelligences who would see humans as barely different to bonobo chimps.

@adcogfx @vectorgramm @Harrlond @dalmaer There are hundreds of millions of animal species yet humans are the only ones capable of creating language and civilization. It’s wild that you don’t believe humans aren’t special.

@gobiborg @aaronp613 I noticed them putting in a similarly styled dial in an update a few months ago (for the 'mix' feature). I think it is just a general return to this style since liquid glass brining attention to it.

@moqarni_ @Harrlond @adcogfx @dalmaer It only solves the causality problem if you have no issue submitting to faith. I have tried to be reglious before, I come from a catholic family. I also visited both a mosque and a synogogue, though there just seems to be some logical incongruency in my mind that prevents it.

Then what’s the point of the theory then? There’s no scientific evidence for it and it doesn’t answer anything. The Big Bang is really the only theory that holds water scientifically. Interestingly, in addition to scientific evidence, a key reason why I believe in the Big Bang theory is because Allah describes it in detail in the Quran. It talks about the expansion of the universe, the singularity, the Big Bang itself and even Primordial Gasses of the early universe. It’s genuinely fascinating. But more importantly, Islam or the existence of God in general solves the causality problem entirely.

@moqarni_ @Harrlond @adcogfx @dalmaer That sounds positive, and congruent. Though I must ask, do you see a paradox between God being all-knowing and humans having free-will. Are they not mutually exclusive?

That’s a valid question. We are getting into the divine wisdom behind the nature of suffering. Why would God create a reality where needless human suffering exists? The simple answer is that it is God’s intention from His divine wisdom. We were created so that we may know and worship God while serving as stewards on Earth. Life is a temporary test of conduct to see who is best in deed, utilizing the unique gift of free will to fulfill a moral trust that the rest of creation does not carry. Life is filled with immense beauty, wonder, and awe. However, there cannot be good without evil. This is why life’s splendour necessitates suffering. Suffering comes from two sources: natural phenomena such as the insect bite example you mentioned, or human oppression. In either case, understanding God’s divine attributes resolves the qualms you have about this seemingly unfair fact of life. God, or Allah, as we Muslims refer to Him, is a personal God who understands the human condition like no other. He is All Merciful in the truest sense. In exchange for this short lifetime of suffering, a young child who died of disease for example would be rewarded with eternal bliss in the form of paradise. What is a human lifetime in comparison to literal eternity? It’s not even a blip. Allah is also All Just, he will never allow the crimes of evil doers and oppressors go unpunished. What a bleak reality it would if Hitler and a young Jewish child he murdered met the same eternal fate. Allah hears the cries of the oppressed and levies justice either in this world, or the next. These are only a few of the many attributes of Allah that answer these questions of existence. And we are not left completely in the dark either. Allah gave us reasoning so that we may explore and understand this vast majestic universe in the form of science. However, science alone is not sufficient. This is why shifted to this discussion of suffering. It’s a metaphysical question that science is not equipped to answer. Allah also revealed to us the Quran which is a blueprint to live an upright life and it answers so many of the pressing questions of the universe. I apologise if I came off as a little preachy. That was not my intention. I genuinely enjoy these conversations and I am curious to know the atheist’s answers to these questions.

@moqarni_ @Harrlond @adcogfx @dalmaer Point 3: I don't claim to solve the causality problem, just throwing the 'cyclic model' theory out there to show that there are other ways to consider existance. I believe in the big bang, not as the origin of existance perhaps but at least the origin of spacetime.

You know, I appreciate the intellectual honesty and consistency. Firstly, may I ask what makes you uncomfortable about the universe’s existence? Second, I will have to challenge your claim that believing in God is human-centric. In fact it’s the opposite. We believe in a higher power whom we submit to. Disregarding God almighty is what’s human-centric. Unless I’m misunderstanding what you mean by human centric. And finally, you aren’t really solving the causality problem with this theory beyond the Big Bang. You’re just kicking the can down the road because that begs the question, where did this energy state come from? It’s an infinite regress fallacy.

@moqarni_ @Harrlond @adcogfx @dalmaer Point 2: I think that belief in a God is human-centric as any anthropoligist would tell you that the idea of a god/gods is as old as human communities, this makes me think that it is merely a byproduct of our linguistic/story-telling based form of intelligence to come up with God

@moqarni_ @Harrlond @adcogfx @dalmaer Point 1: I am uncomfortable with the universe's existance because I know that I am essentially a primate with an advanced brain, though not advanced enough to be able to understand ultra-abstract concepts such as infinity, transendance, or the origins of existance.
