@paulswaney3 iirc Chamath tried this in VC in the 2013-2015 era and had to quietly wind down

@BLUECOW009 I agree on the AI front, he's not fundraising so he's not hyping it up (like Sam, Elon etc..) For the metaverse stuff I don't think it's necessarily "a waste" most is probably R&D which they "could" recoup someday

Mark Zuck lost $200billion with the metaverse but he learned a few things, he understood that he need development to be > than what he actually wants to ouput in general. Hence, he did not make a AI service, instead he is simply pushing the conversation as a political move to gain control of part of the market, simultaneously, he is forcing both market and politics to reconsider the subject matter. While he might not be able to win the market directly, he takes a massive portion of the market almost with no investment when compared to Claude and Gpt that are spending 100s millions in ads, whenever one of his models beats the SOTA he will simply push down the openai favoritism by 3 letter agencies, Altman will lose his job, claude will become once again the #2, meanwhile billions that use messenger, whatsapp, facebook and instagram will willingly provide massive data to the SOTA “free ai” willist formalizing the “in device assistant” strategy that is going to be more prevalent than the 3rd party experience where we pay a large sum. Open source models will be at that point a developer only thing (it is already like that anyways) but meta will still be known as the canonical open source facilitator for a high parameter model with the llama series, both, mitigating criticism from the core tech base and allowing them to monetize their current user base with layers.

@TheJackForge GRRM was lazy and the producers were forced to cobble something together. At least J.K. Rowling got the final book out the door once the movies caught up to her writing

I used to pitch seed investors with a fancy slide deck. It generated average interest from average investors—and virtually no interest from sophisticated consumer investors. After about 3 months of trial & error, I switched to: ⬝ Hand them a prototype ⬝ Leave the room ⬝ Quickly text my team to interact with the investor on the app Then after 5 minutes, I would come back into the room and start explaining the longterm vision. Virtually every time they would interrupt me and say they'd like to invest. For consumer products, you should let them speak for themselves, instead of wasting your time on a presentation that convinces your idea is good. While you should certainly have slides ready to explain your tactical plans, getting an investor to experience the Aha Moment themselves will compensate for any other issue with your pitch. The last mile of conviction—when they tap "Send" on the wire—all comes down to intuitively understanding the concept. And if the product demo doesn't resonate with them: they were never going to invest anyway.
