@nntaleb No. In Max Scheler's terms, true moral integrity is faithfulness to objective values, not self-regard. Values have true ontological reality you may benefit from reading Iain Mcgilcrist

Saturday night at 9:00 pm, Argentina will be playing Switzerland. The Saad family would like to attend the match as we've never seen Messi play for the Argentina national team. If any of my fans have four extra tickets, reach out to me.

What a cheap shot. Criticize Mamdani’s policies all you want, but saying he has built nothing because he hasn’t built companies at your scale only shows how narrow your definition of value has become. Public life, organizing, legislation, and representation count too. Wealth does not give anyone a monopoly on contribution. Greatness should come with humility not Lex Luthor style hubris.

No individual has taken more from America than Elon Musk, who has taken approximately $38 billion worth of government subsidies to fund his companies, Tesla and SpaceX. Elon Musk is a government mooch. And his USAID cuts will lead to the death of millions across the globe.

@Pergament_F In Italy weddings are very expensive but then those who are invited are expected to bring very expensive gifts from a wish list so the costs balance each other. In fact there is the joke that people fear to be invited to weddings because of the expensive presents

I read that a wedding in Spain can cost up to €32,000. I have always admired humanity's remarkable ability to invest substantial sums in events that are immediately followed by thoroughly ordinary activities such as doing the laundry, cleaning the house, cooking dinner, and arguing over who forgot to buy the yogurt. Spending €32,000 in order to announce ceremoniously to two hundred people that you will henceforth perform all of these duties within a legally recognized framework strikes me as an economic theory that Adam Smith would probably have declined to comment upon. Thank you, but I would rather remain a spectator of such financial experiments. The most curious thing about weddings is not that two people decide to live together, but that they invite two hundred others to witness the beginning of that decision at a cost of €32,000. If, after the ceremony, each of the guests agreed to take over at least one year of the cleaning, laundry, and cooking, the investment would appear considerably more rational. Night

@polblonde I think that's very British. They don't move out of the way, on the plane they take up as much space is they can at the expenses of the person sitting next to them. Was the person you mentioned black? I think a lot of negative comments have just been made because of racism

@x_micky_b @pmddomingos Of course it ain't. I don't want to sound vulgar but it is a s***hole compared to Italy. The only things of value were taken from Italy or the rest of Europe (all the art at Windsor castle, the National gallery not to mention the Elgin marbles stolen from the Parthenon)

@GadSaad @GadSaad you should man up and stop whining. You like to speak about deontological vs consequentialist ethics etc to give yourself a philosophical aura. So think of Socrates who obeyed the laws of Athens though he disagreed with them. He died for it: more manly than paying taxes

Thank you Doctor for having used simple words so that I could follow your deeply noble and empathetic message. Canada is lucky to have you. I on the other hand am a mean and selfish person because I'm a bit miffed that 65%+ of my income is taken (once all taxes are added up). I should learn to be more generous.
Raghu Venugopal MD@raghu_venugopal

@GadSaad Gad, I’m a Canadian physician, and I’m taxed appropriate for my income. I believe in paying my fair share. Everyday I kiss the proverbial ground of Canada. Read the newspaper more. We are astronomically lucky to live and work in Canada.

Plato’s earlier works also argued for “Philosopher kings.” People with political axes to grind always pick and choose from the past. But thanks for this NYT: “Only by teaching the evils of extreme greed can society begin to restore the healthy balance of wealth necessary for a thriving republic.” Which DSA madrassas should this be taught in? Of course this screed also continues the myth that Musk is sitting on all these resources that could be just magically reallocated. That silliness is becoming doctrine repeated without question by those who are allegedly (extremely allegedly) our thinkers. Yes he is sitting on 1T in unused healthcare. That fiend.

@evikokalari @GiorgiaMeloni I'd suggest learning a little Italian before declaring a diplomatic crisis. Italians use informal language (tu) with friends, equals and rivals alike. Not every culture treats political leaders as royalty. Curious criticism from an admirer of Seneca, Dante and the Renaissance...

"Ti suggerirei di concentrarti sulla tua"? Ma va a fa', @GiorgiaMeloni!!! Who does this woman think she is, speaking to the President of the United States of America in this manner? I just read her post in Italian, and she is literally speaking to President Trump as if she were addressing someone beneath her. Italy needs to turn on this fool immediately, or @POTUS should take some serious action to show her who the boss is. She is absolutely lying, especially when she says these were unprovoked attacks. Really? Instead of allowing the U.S. to use the military bases, and seeking approval from her parliament if needed, she refused to let the U.S. use the bases. Then she kept annoying the hell out of Trump, barging into his conversations with other European leaders, and then had the audacity to ask him for photos. Giorgia Meloni is absolutely overrated. I have zero respect for this fool, and I hope she loses the next election by a large margin. That should be a fitting end to her political legacy.
