@vlu1907 @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw @OJEN_ROEJ #ojenroejsp22 I agree with your point however getting rid of encampments would violate that same section for the homeless living in them. Your home and income do not determine whether the Charter applies to you or not.

S. 7 of the Charter states that everyone has the right to life, liberty and security. If we let the encampments continue, are we not infringing on the security of others that want to use the park? #OJENROEJSP22 @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw

@tl__03 @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw The concern for COVID-19 does not go away in encampments. In fact, there are many sanitation issues, such as “the lack of ready access to clean running water… a primary defence against the spread of COVID-19” (Poff v. CIty of Hamilton, 190). #OJENROEJSP22 @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw

According to Dr. Wiwcharuk, “the increased risk of contracting COVID-19 in congregate settings like shelters is “well documented” and is another reason some people will avoid staying in shelters.” (2/2) #OJENROEJSP22 @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw

@griffinslaw22 (2/2) This standard isn't possible in encampments, which leads to more crime, ultimately endangering the people that live there. It’s not only for the safety of the general public, but of the people that live in the encampments as well. #OJENROEJSP22 @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw

Despite tent encampments being illegal, it is important to consider that the law does not always align with morality. To have a functioning prescriptive society, we must consider supporting financially disadvantaged citizens. @OJEN_ROEJ #OJENROEJSP22

The city does not provide enough housing or assistance to those who are in need and by evicting them from their tent encampments as well, we are leaving thousands of people with absolutely no where to go. @OJEN_ROEJ #OJENROEJSP22

I believe the city should not have the ability to evict those living in tent encampments. The law should be changed. @OJEN_ROEJ #OJENROEJSP22

City of Toronto municipal bylaw 608-9 states that public parks can not be allowed to be used for non-recreational purposes. Recreational purpose is defined to be activities that relate to hobbies. Living in said park is against this bylaw, and is infringing on the public property
