"No one knows the Thucydides Trap better than me, it's a brilliant trap. No, really, I love it, it's probably my favourite trap. A lot of people come up to me and asking questions saying "Donald, can you tell us more about the Thucydides Trap" and I say look, nobody knows more about the Thucydides Trap than me and I'll tell you that nobody is better at understanding it and overcoming it than me, you wouldn't believe it. They don't tell you that though but we're gonna be the best at overcoming the Thucydides Trap and we're gonna show everyone, even the fake media, how we overcome it because like I said nobody knows more about the Thucydides Trap than me."

This is getting wild now 👀
So I started looking at the ballroom after digging into the Reflecting Pool yesterday. I’m starting to see some patterns.
The playbook works like this. Pick your contractor personally. Invoke “Unusual and Compelling Urgency” to skip competition. Use the 250th anniversary as the justification. Inflate the price. Don’t disclose who’s actually doing the work. Repeat.
Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. $13.1M. No bid. No competition. Justification: “Unusual and Compelling Urgency” 250th anniversary. Contractor: Atlantic Industrial. Zero prior federal contracts. No pool or monument experience. The subcontractor doing the actual work doesn’t appear anywhere in the justification documents.
Now the ballroom. Trump personally selected Clark Construction to build his $400M White House ballroom. Clark is already on site with people and equipment. Then NPS quietly awards Clark a separate $17.4M no-bid contract to fix two fountains in Lafayette Park directly across the street. Never posted publicly. Never competitively bid. The justification? Clark was already nearby. That’s it.
The original estimate for those fountains in 2022 was $3.3M. The consultant who wrote that estimate said the administration literally took his cover page and added millions with no itemization. Final price: $17.4M. Same urgency exemption. Same 250th anniversary justification.
Both contracts bypassed competitive bidding. Both used the same urgency exemption. Both cited the same 250th anniversary. Both awarded to contractors with direct Trump connections. The Lafayette Park contract was never posted in public federal spending databases. The Reflecting Pool contract was posted but the subcontractor doing the primary work appears nowhere in the paperwork.
Combined taxpayer bill: over $30 million. Combined competitive bids received: zero. This urgency exemption has been used in less than 1% of NPS contracts over the past decade. They used it twice in the same year. For birthday decorations.
Senator Blumenthal is already demanding answers on the Lafayette Park contract by May 15th. The Reflecting Pool has a Cabinet secretary photographed on site and a subcontractor with an expired federal registration that isn’t mentioned anywhere in the contract documents.
This isn’t two separate stories. This is one story. The 250th anniversary isn’t just a celebration. It’s a billing mechanism. And taxpayers are footing the bill with zero say in who got the work or why..

So let me get this straight…
Republicans can redraw entire states in backrooms with a blood oath to Donald Trump… but the second actual citizens vote for independent redistricting, the Supreme Court suddenly develops a deep respect for “process.”
All while Donald Trump gave his friend a $7 million no-bid contract to botch the painting of a national monument… because apparently the new standard for federal spending is… money laundering.
THEN Donald Trump, who is supposed to be the president of the United States, is out here calling reporters “bitch” on national television… and half the country acts like that’s just another normal Tuesday instead of a complete humiliation of the office itself.
And the same people who spent decades screaming about the Antichrist are now posing for selfies next to a giant gold statue of Trump, like the Bible was less of a religious text and more of a checklist of things to ignore.
At this point this isn’t even hypocrisy anymore.

@freemufumiri @CyrilRamaphosa @ClaysonMonyela @HomeAffairsSA @HeidiGiokos @DIRCO_ZA “When small men start to cast big shadows, it means that the Sun is about to set.” — Lin Yutang.

Today, President @CyrilRamaphosa visited Zimbabwe and was photographed with Wicknell Chivayo, a man currently under investigation by South Africa's own FIC for allegedly laundering over R800 million in Zimbabwean public funds.
South Africa's Financial Intelligence Centre found that over R1.1 billion from Zimbabwe's Ministry of Finance @ZimTreasury flowed into a South African printing company, with more than R800 million rapidly transferred into accounts belonging to Chivayo-linked companies.
The Hawks, SARS and SAPS are all involved. A South African High Court has already frozen Chivayo's bank accounts at FNB, Absa and Standard Bank and grounded his private jet in a case brought by his estranged wife Louise Sonja Madzikanda.
But it gets worse.
Wicknell's younger brother, Joachim 'G6' Chivayo, was arrested in November 2024 by the Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Unit in Brakpan for possession of six gold bars worth approximately R15 million. He was granted bail of R20,000 with strict conditions; he could not leave Gauteng or South Africa. He then failed to appear in court, and a warrant of arrest was issued against him on March 11, 2025.
He jumped the border and never came back.
Joachim Chivayo was subsequently appointed ZANU-PF's deputy secretary for information and publicity in Harare province in September 2025, a fugitive from South African justice, rewarded with a political position.
So here is the full picture: South Africa's FIC is actively investigating the elder Chivayo. South Africa's Hawks have an outstanding warrant for the younger Chivayo. A South African court has frozen the family's assets. And Ramaphosa flew to Zimbabwe and posed for photographs with the man at the centre of all of it.
What does this say about South Africa's rule of law?
When a sitting president shares a frame with someone his own country's financial intelligence unit is investigating for money laundering and whose fugitive brother is sheltered by the very government hosting that visit, the message sent to criminals everywhere is clear: connections trump consequences.
You genuinely cannot make this up. 🇿🇦🇿🇼 @Leon_Schreib @Sophie_Mokoena

@DougColtart @advocatemahere @PoliceZimbabwe @cdfzim There is credible information on oath that we, the agency tasked to protect you, will threaten your meeting and intentionally cause disorder so we can then arrest you.
Signed,
ZRP.
🤦🏾♂️ … Zimbabwe is not a real place.

The @PoliceZimbabwe are not doing their job. If there is a credible threat to @cdfzim’s meeting about #CAB3 then it’s the Police’s job to provide sufficient security to ensure that CDF’s constitutional right to meet is not denied. This is an appalling violation of rights!

The victory of the opposition in Hungary yesterday, like the Polish election in 2023, is a victory for democracy, not just in Europe but around the world. Most of all, it’s a testament to the resilience and determination of the Hungarian people – and a reminder to all of us to keep striving for fairness, equality and the rule of law.
