Will Biya's government continue works in Bamenda and other places after Pope Leo's visit?
It remains to be seen whether the construction work that started to give the Pope a befitting welcome will continue.
The Biya government has a tendency to abandon projects when certain events have passed.
Whenever Biya is traveling outside Yaoundé, or elections are approaching, or an important official visit is planned, construction work is launched.
But when such events are over, work stops and the projects are abandoned.
Examples include the tractors for the agricultural show in Ebolowa, the promise of the ring road following the 2011 presidential elections, and the Olembe stadium left incomplete after AFCON, among other projects.
When the Pope’s visit was announced, several projects were launched in Bamenda. Even the airport, which has not been operational since 2019, was refurbished.
Many hope that the regime will continue what it started, especially the Bamenda airport, to give the region air transport visibility.

Godspeed, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV: May God protect you as you continue your pastoral duty.
17/4/2026
Abdulkarim Ali
I almost felt disappointed with my people of Southern Cameroons, but I know better.
Everything said by those cherry-picked to speak was strictly scripted and controlled. The only free speech was the word of the Pope himself.
Pope Leo: Yaoundé: 14/04/2026
"Peace cannot be reduced to a slogan."
Bamenda: 16/04/2026
"Woe to those who use religion and the very word of God for their personal political, economic or military gains"...
Douala: 17/04/2026
"Despite the richness of the land in Cameroon, many experience both material and spiritual poverty," he said, urging the youth not to give in to distrust and discouragement.
The Pope didn't mince words. He understands the situation in the Cameroons. Whether he himself will match his words and the white dove gesture and Bamenda with concrete action is up to him and God.
No Justice, No Peace. Peace is abstract — it is the result of a set of actions. It is a product of justice.

THREAD 🧵 | Press Statement by @AbdulkarimAli | Yaoundé 🇨🇲 | April 16, 2026
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
I address the public on recent legal developments affecting my case and many other detained #SouthernCameroonians. Justice and fair hearing are rights guaranteed by both international law and the #Cameroon Constitution.
My legal team, led by Dr. Barrister @NkamwahLimenPhrobert, has advised setting aside the judgment rendered against me in absentia—to ensure my right to present my case openly and lawfully.
We have officially filed an opposition to the said judgment. Justice shall prevail. ⚖️
This legal alternative rests on three pillars:
🔹 Domestic law – The Constitution provides for trial by an independent and impartial tribunal. Military courts are tribunals of exception and lack jurisdiction over civilians.
🔹 International law – Article 14 of the #ICCPR and Article 7 of the #AfricanCharter affirm that civilians should be tried by ordinary courts.
🔹 Precedent – The #ACHPR has ruled repeatedly that trying civilians in military tribunals violates fair-trial guarantees.
I express deep gratitude to every lawyer defending thousands of unlawfully detained Southern Cameroonians. 🙏
I call on human rights defenders, international organizations, religious bodies, and people of goodwill to support Dr. @NkamwahLimenPhrobert and the team.
Justice in law is the surest path to lasting local and global peace.
Justice pursued lawfully may be delayed, but never denied—and my freedom will come at a limited, legal, moral, and honorable cost only.

Breaking News:
Pope Leo Bamenda Northern Ambazonia declaration.
This comes at a time when Cameroon and Ambazonia have been locked in a brutal conflict for over nine years, with Ambazonian forces fighting for what they see as independence and self-determination. Supporters of the movement argue that external powers like France, UK and even USA have long influenced the situation, backing the Cameroonian government by training and supplying weapons to the Cameroun regime. Meanwhile, Ambazonian liberation leader Dr. Cho Ayaba, who called for self-defense, remains detained in Norway raising further questions among supporters about international involvement backing Cameroun for their neocolonialism and imperialism interest protected by the Cameroun Biya regime. @Pontifex @USEmbYaounde

Breaking News:
Ambazonian decolonisation forces have rejected a ceasefire proposal put forward by certain Ambazonian liberation groups. The rejection follows Pope Leo’s @Pontifex visit to Cameroon and his scheduled transit through Ambazonia to meet with Christian communities. In a statement, the decolonisation forces argued that in an active liberation war between Ambazonia and Cameroon, no single party has the unilateral right to declare a ceasefire without the consent of the opposing side. The decision comes amid ongoing intense fighting, as Cameroon government forces launched fresh attacks on Bafut Local Government Area. According to Ambazonian sources, the operation is intended to prevent Ambazonian fighters from targeting the Cameroon military base located at Bafut airport. Ambazonian forces maintain that the airport has become a legitimate military target because it hosts troops accused of involvement in atrocities, which several international organisations, including Human Rights Watch, have described as genocidal.Analysts following the conflict note that the rejection highlights the complexity of the Ambazonia liberation struggle. They argue that Ambazonian forces are within their rights to continue defensive operations until Cameroon agrees to withdraw its troops and respect the territory’s 1960 boundaries at independence, when Ambazonia was not part of Cameroon. The situation is being compared to recent international conflicts, such as the Israel–US–Iran tensions, where a ceasefire was announced but later collapsed after talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, failed.

English

The Arch Bishop of Bamenda, Andrew Nkea has said the Pope, though yet to arrive Cameroon is already performing miracles.
He was speaking on the context that both separatists and government wants the same thing which is peace because of the Pope's coming.
"For the first time in ten years Separatists and government are speaking the same language. That's the miracle of the Pope's visit. Everybody wants peace"

WHY YOUNG AFRICAN OPPOSITION LIKE THOSE OF UGANDA ,ZIMBABWE &TANZANIA PLUS OTHERS MUST LEARN FROM THE ELDERS IN THE FIELD x.com/i/broadcasts/1…

MY THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
“Have you noticed something rather strange about young African opposition leaders like Bob Wine of Uganda ? They deliver speeches to European, UN, Chinese, Russian, and American leaders—people who are often the same age as the presidents they criticize back home. In doing so, they heap insults on them, not realizing that those very elders are the decision-makers whose support they seek.”
