The 5th “One Heart, One Good Cause, Running with Love” Charity Run Concludes Successfully
On May 23, 2026, the 5th “One Heart, One Good Cause, Running with Love” charity run, jointly organized by the Fujian Guanyoujiayou Foundation for Cancer Care, the First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University, Xiamen Fifth Hospital, Lu Yan Pharmacy, and the “Fighting Cancer Together” Forum, came to a successful conclusion along the picturesque Coastal Romantic Pathway of Eastern Xiamen. As a flagship project of the Fujian Provincial Bamin Charity Competition, this event has been held annually for five consecutive years, bringing warmth and connection to the community. This year’s activity aimed to promote health through running, conveying the message of “scientific cancer prevention and healthy living” to the whole of society. We are committed to building a public welfare ecosystem that connects patients, medical professionals, and the broader community — so that every stride becomes a small but meaningful contribution to the national cancer prevention and treatment initiative. Here, running serves as a vehicle for hope, and public service acts as a bridge bringing people together. We join hands to continuously infuse vitality and confidence into the health of all people.
Uniting Forces for a Meaningful Start, Carrying on the Mission for Love
At the opening ceremony, the event was officially launched by distinguished guests including: Chen Liang, Deputy Director of the Xiamen Municipal Health Commission; Zheng Linxiong, Party Secretary of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University; Zhang Fuxing, President of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University; Ye Feng, Vice President of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University and President of Xiamen Fifth Hospital; Deng Zhihong, Party Secretary of Xiamen Fifth Hospital; Zhou Baoqing, Vice Chairperson of the Fujian Guanyoujiayou Foundation for Cancer Care; Wu Di, Vice Chairperson of Lu Yan Pharmaceutical; and Jin Ping, Co-founder of the “Fighting Cancer Together” Forum. They cheered and showed support for all participants.
Zheng Linxiong, Party Secretary of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University, stated: “We must always stay focused on the goal of high-quality hospital development, demonstrate humanistic care in medicine through practical actions, and contribute to building a healthier Xiamen.”
Ye Feng, Vice President of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University and President of Xiamen Fifth Hospital, remarked: “We hope to break down the barriers of traditional medical care. By creating more diverse and compassionate interactions with patients, we will integrate professional medical expertise with humanistic care — truly honoring our original mission of putting patients at the heart of everything we do.”
This year’s run attracted running enthusiasts from across the country, as well as cancer patients and their families, and medical professionals. People from all walks of life gathered for the same charitable cause and shared a common passion. Far more than a competitive race, this event offered everyone an opportunity to embrace life and pursue their love of sport — while spreading the message of evidence-based cancer prevention and care.
Leading by Example, Moving Forward with Positivity
On the course, families running side by side formed a particularly heartwarming sight. Many parents brought their children along, setting a positive example of health and kindness, and planting the seeds of public service and active living through shared time together.
At the event site, Mr. Li drove his family of four all the way from Quanzhou to take part. Wiping sweat from his forehead, he smiled and said: “I’m usually very busy with work and rarely get the chance to do something as a whole family. Bringing my children here lets them experience the joy of sports, but more importantly, it teaches them to care for others and contribute to good causes. This kind of gentle, immersive lesson is far more vivid and memorable than anything they could learn from books.”
For participants living with cancer, running helped challenge common misconceptions about what people facing this illness can achieve. Their positive outlook showcased the resilience of the human spirit — inspiring both themselves and others on similar journeys to keep moving forward with courage and hope.
Mr. Lu, who was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer, has faced his illness with optimism and determination. Supported by his wife and family, he has overcome health challenges time and again. His journey proves that with hope and the love of family, anyone can radiate positivity, an unyielding spirit, and a deep love for life.
Since his diagnosis with small-cell lung cancer in 2022, Mr. Lv has approached his condition with calmness and fortitude, supported every step of the way by his family. He actively supports fellow patients, sharing his own experiences and insights to help others regain confidence and live life bravely.
Mr. Daohao, diagnosed with advanced lung cancer with multiple metastases in 2019, has now walked the path of cancer care for eight years. Always cheerful and optimistic, he devotes himself to peer support, organizing group trips and gatherings for patients. He generously shares lessons from his long-term survival, answers questions, and offers emotional guidance — becoming a beloved source of strength and inspiration, helping others face their journeys with confidence and calm.
Special recognition was given to these individuals as role models. Their stories remind us that life never reaches a dead end, and that perseverance always brings hope. When we embrace life fully, every day can be meaningful and vibrant.
In addition, awards were presented to top performers in the competitive categories:
5km Category: 1st place – Zhuo Zuliang; 2nd place – Ye Xushui; 3rd place – Zhang Ziqian
10km Category: 1st place – Lian Shenghui; 2nd place – Zhang Shaokang; 3rd place – Lin Weilun
Participants competed with total commitment and pushed past their limits — embodying the pure spirit of sport. While every race has a finish line, the drive to improve never ends. To keep moving forward, to grow through every experience, and to live life to the fullest — that is the true victory.
Science Education with Fun and Warmth
To create a well-rounded experience for all attendees, five dedicated zones were set up, combining health education, charity, and interactive fun.
In the health education area hosted by Lu Yan Pharmaceutical and Bayer, essential knowledge about safe medication use was integrated into engaging activities such as scratch cards and quizzes. Many participants corrected misunderstandings they had about daily medicine use, noting how memorable and effective this fun learning approach was.
In the Patient Story Exhibition area, visitors could read real-life accounts collected by the Fujian Guanyoujiayou Foundation for Cancer Care and the “Fighting Cancer Together” Forum. Many runners paused to read these stories, leaving messages of encouragement and well wishes — sending warmth and strength to those fighting cancer.
Huang Rong, Secretary-General of the Foundation and one of the event organizers, explained: “We collect and display these personal stories not only to record and remember them, but to show that no one is fighting alone. Through this charity run, we unite society, build a supportive platform connecting patients and the community, break down barriers and prejudice, and raise awareness about cancer prevention and care. Our goal is to ensure patients feel supported and cared for, and to foster a healthy environment of understanding and compassion.”
Long lines formed at the Multidisciplinary Consultation and Massage & Recovery zones. Experts from the Medical Oncology, Radiotherapy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine, and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine departments of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University were on hand to answer questions. Participants consulted about their health and gained insights into evidence-based healthy lifestyles. Meanwhile, specialists from the Massage Department of Xiamen Fifth Hospital provided post-run recovery treatments, relieving muscle fatigue and helping everyone recover quickly — a thoughtful demonstration of care and health support.
The Game Zone was a hub of energy and joy. Classic activities like ring toss and beanbag toss drew participants of all ages, with cheers and laughter filling the air.
At the Love Market, a wide variety of attractions kept visitors engaged. It was a space to relax, interact, and experience the true spirit of the event. Leading health brands came together to create a marketplace dedicated to health protection, fun interaction, and charitable giving — offering everything from professional health advice to post-race refreshments. Yunnan Baiyao, Haleon, and Renhe Zhongfang set up stations with demonstrations of pain relief sprays, ointments, and care guidance to ease post-exercise muscle discomfort. Lu Yan Pharmacy provided free health screenings and hands-on workshops to make traditional Chinese medical culture accessible and engaging.
Beyond health services, the market was full of fun. Booths from Tasly, Rongchang Pharmaceutical, and the Agricultural Bank of China hosted interactive games and quizzes, where visitors learned about health and won small gifts. Every stall was busy; participants posed with creative photo props and collected stamps — enjoying great company and valuable health insights amid laughter.
Volunteers: The Shining Light of Support
This event was made possible by the dedication of volunteers and supportive partner organizations. Teams from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University, Xiamen Fifth Hospital, Yinzhong Auto, Lu Yan Pharmacy, Huashi Xiping Bilingual School, Xiamen Yingcai School, RingCentral Xiamen, and the Shanjian Huaxi Group brought professionalism and enthusiasm. Despite the early summer heat, they worked tirelessly at every stage — from registration and kit distribution, to course support, refreshment stations, and medical assistance. Their comprehensive care and commitment were an essential part of the event, and a wonderful presence along the route.
Towards the end of the day, volunteers from Xiamen Yingcai School presented a wonderful cultural performance. Dances inspired by ancient Chinese traditions and energetic songs brought the 5th charity run to a close on a high note of vitality and hope.
Moving Forward, Running for Love
Every step taken in this run measures the value of life; our commitment to public service answers the call of our times. This charity run was not only a collective act of love, but also a practical demonstration of the national strategy for a “Healthy China 2030” and the vision of integrating sports and health care.
Mountains and seas will always meet, and we will meet again through wind and rain. Let us carry forward this reverence for life and our passion for good causes. We look forward to running together again under the sun next May — until then, we keep moving forward.
