When will you morons get it through your thick skulls. We DO NOT CARE about tech companies. We care about our communities not being turned into the third world America was fine before h1b, and will be fine once it’s abolished. AMERICA IS NOT YOUR ECONOMIC ZONE
Emily Neumann@immigrationgirl

Waiting for the language in the Executive Order, but the administration appears to want a company to pay $100,000 per year to the government for each H-1B worker it employs. The theory: firms will hire U.S. workers instead. The reality: firms will just move jobs overseas where talent is available.

I didn’t like USAID. But watching people gleefully mock a woman for having to start over at ~60 is bleak. You can disagree with someone’s politics without losing basic empathy. The internet has broken a lot of brains.

As a white South African I don’t have a flag that represents me in any shape or form in South Africa Hence it has been easy to assimilate with the American people and honor the flag that has given us security and safety from the terrible persecution against the white minority

Today, April 20th, marks exactly two months since we arrived in the United States as refugees fleeing South Africa. We came with nothing but determination. Today, we stand on our own two feet: SSC, EAD, and US driver’s licenses secured. My son and I both have full-time jobs, reliable transport, and we’re about to move into our own place — paying our own rent and utilities with zero burden on American taxpayers. Every single day, we get closer to full self-sufficiency. We are not here to take — we are here to build, contribute, and repay the extraordinary privilege of calling America home. To the United States government and the American people: thank you. Thank you for the opportunity to escape violence and chaos, and for giving us the chance to become proud, productive members of the greatest nation on Earth. We will not waste this gift.

I voted to extend TPS for Haitians because I cannot, in good conscience, send people who were lawfully granted protection here, followed our laws, and built lives under our rules back to rape, murder, and chaos in a lawless Haiti. This is completely separate from amnesty or illegal immigration. Conflating the two is dangerous.

Removing TPS status for Haitians living in the United States would cost 350,000 workers their ability to work at a time when we’re already facing serious workforce shortages. I’ve heard from healthcare providers and business leaders across Nebraska, including @OmahaChamber, who are concerned about the impact this would have on patient care and our economy. I don’t see the goodness of deporting people who are here legally, working, and contributing to our country.

When your working life rewards you, it’s easy to ratchet up the complexity: homes, cars, travel, possessions etc. I have found that all that complexity comes at the sake of your most fleeting asset: your time. Instead of building things, all of a sudden you’re dealing with minutiae and logistics. Instead of talking mostly to engineers, you’re talking mostly to non-engineers. The building stops…the business of managing self inflicted complexity begins. It’s worth noting that the best players in the game (Buffett, Elon) have kept their life extremely basic, almost monastic/nomadic, as success ratcheted them ever higher. I think it’s the biggest secret hiding in plain sight: When the world upgrades your status, downgrade your complexity.

@weirddreamteam @edels0n The difference in the Minnesota fraud is that it's not being done by the government. Throw those people in jail, deport them if they're illegal, but it's not the same at all.

California spends $30 billion a year to pay for more than 500,000 people to stay home with family members and cook, clean, do laundry, and watch television. The program mostly operates on the honor system—and loses $6 to $12 billion to fraud each year.
