Its almost certain the Cavs give Harden a 2-3 year deal instead of paying him his full $43M this year with his option. People will hate it on the surface but doing a longer term deal at a much lower number ($25-32M?) actually gives the Cavs much more flexibility in the offseason. The whole goal is to get under the 2nd apron so u can at least aggregate multiple players in a trade. Signing Harden for multiple yrs at a lower number does that. If u let Harden walk it doesnt really help all that much otherwise and u are forced to sign vet minimum guys to replace him.
