The Afroman Trial. -Cops raid Afromans house for bullshit reasons. -Steal money, break his door, fuck his house up. -No criminality found whatsoever, no charges at all pressed on Afroman. -Afroman spends the next 3 years making songs that make fun of all the officers involved by name, even using footage of the raid from his own CCTV cameras. -Songs had titles like "Randy Walters is a son of a bitch" and "Lick Em Low Lisa" accusing one of the officers of being a lesbian and sleeping with the other officers wives. -During the raid one officer looked like he was about to eat some lemon pound cake sitting on Afromans counter, Afroman made a whole album calling the officer fat. -The cops get mad and file a lawsuit for defamation. -Afroman turns up to court in a whole American flag suit. -Officers performatively mald and cry while listening to the songs really trying to oversell how badly the songs upset them. -One officer was suing because Afroman made a whole song about him saying he was fucking the officers wife. When the officer was asked if Afroman was really fucking his wife, he said "I don't know". Nuking his own case and establishing that there is a non-zero chance that Afroman might actually be fucking his wife. -As his only witness for the trial, Afroman brought a deputies EX FUCKING WIFE. -The jury ruled completely in favour of Afroman. This entire thing has been a great win for free speech and absolutely fucking hilarious.

I read the first hundred pages of The Road last year, and read the first hundred pages of Blood Meridian this year, and in both instances, gave up, because the books never clicked. Lyrical writing, but the characters are reduced to way down Maslow's hierarchy, and the tone is so relentlessly bleak, with almost no humanity breaking through, it was difficult to feel anything besides the flint clicking against the cold steel in the overwhelming darkness. I know many of you love it, but to me, it's overwrought, overstylized, and overhyped.

It’s really cool how people mortgaged themselves up the gills for new construction houses in exurbs, right before employers told everyone to return to office and right before gas prices spiked and doubled

given that: 1. gen z is richer in real terms age for age than any generation in US history and 2. i seem them all on vacation all the fricking time i think their woes are mostly their own misguided pity party for themselves. they are not poor. they have a perception problem.

Gen Z is always bitching about how they can’t afford anything and I get it. They kinda got screwed. But every generation has its own downsides. My grandparents grew up during the f***ing Great Depression! I’m a Gen X kid. My dad taught me how to ride a bike by holding the seat at the top of a hill with sticker bushes at the bottom and said “when you turn away before the sticker bush you’ll be riding your bike.” He’d let go and face first I’d go into the bushes. Took 6 or 7 tries before I dodged them. No helmet, no nothing. Just pain. And in college we didn’t have DoorDash; we had to put on clothes, walk out into the elements, and actually drive to Wendy’s. HUNGOVER! Point is I agree you guys got screwed, but feeling sorry for yourself won’t fix anything. Time to put on your big boy pants and roll with the punches. Yes life isn’t fair, but at least you aren’t storming the beaches of Normandy. I mean in real life, not on Call of Duty.

🚨 This isn’t your old FBI. Under President Trump, we rebuilt it from the ground up - faster, tougher, and focused on one thing: protecting Americans. • 1,000+ agents pushed out of DC and into the field • 1,800 gangs & criminal networks dismantled • 2,250+ kilos of fentanyl seized • Violent crime arrests UP 112% • 6,200 child victims found, 1,700 predators arrested And we didn’t stop there: We’re deploying AI to track threats in real time, expanding biometric screening overseas to stop terrorists before they reach our shores, and doubling down on drone & counter-drone capabilities to stay ahead of modern warfare. No more politics, no more distractions.

Not altogether bad advice. But then note the comments. A bunch of dolts rushing in to shit on him for committing suicide. And how do they know he committed suicide? Because the media told them. So it must be true. My take: we are ruled by a people so ferocious, depraved, and inhumane that if anyone becomes too influential and doesn’t stay on script, they will murder them and then fabricate that they were suicidal, troubled, and simply people no one should listen to. I think THAT is far more likely than an internationally beloved man who is financially secure and clearly enjoys life checking into a hotel and going through a goofy symbolically rich hanging of himself. Because if Bourdain was to do himself in, it would have been through overdose.

"Eat at a local restaurant tonight. Get the cream sauce. Have a cold pint at 4 o’clock in a mostly empty bar. Go somewhere you’ve never been. Listen to someone you think may have nothing in common with you. Order the steak rare. Eat an oyster. Have a negroni. Have two. Be open to a world where you may not understand or agree with the person next to you, but have a drink with them anyways. Eat slowly. Tip your server. Check in on your friends. Check in on yourself. Enjoy the ride." Anthony Bourdain

Though its gross to drink diet soda at all and I have spells of revulsion and abstinence, I learned recently that you can mix any two of them and come up with something just as drinkable as any one of them. They don't really have tastes, this may mean. They have quasi-tastes.

@winfieldryan @MattWalshBlog Not my favorite McCarthy novel, but it contains my favorite line in all of American fiction: "But there are no absolutes in human misery and things can always get worse." I have that pinned to my profile here.

Reading Blood Meridian. I wonder if there will ever be an author like Cormac McCarthy again, or if we’ve seen the last of the truly great writers. Every sentence he composes is art, like a painting. You see and feel what he’s trying to convey. He wrestles with big things, the human condition, good and evil. He doesn’t give you answers but he leaves you with a lot to think about. An absolute master of his craft. Not the last, I hope, but I don’t know.
