The Rise of Skywalker is still the biggest narrative failure in this franchise, but goddamn, that movie actually felt like an event. It had scale (sometimes to a stupid degree), it had colour (mostly blue) and it had planets that felt otherworldly. They weren't good, but there were character arcs in it and despite the "Somehow Palpatine returned plot", it was not entirely without stakes. I absolutely hate TROS, but I can appreciate that they at least tried. It has the components of a movie. The Mandalorian and Grogu simply does not feel like a real film.

@HPbasketball OKC fans old enough to remember 2012 know to never, ever take a bright future for granted. Things change fast in this league.

Also, we always think that what is now will always be. Maybe OKC and SA will be as good or better next season. Maybe they won't. Maybe fate intervenes. Maybe it doesn't come together. There are always plot twists. I don't think the bar is unreachably high next year for sure, I just think it was this year. EVerything came together for those two teams in terms of how they play (OKC has had insanely bad injury luck, making them all the more impressive). Should make for a great WCF. But next year is next year.

@SirSnipeyy I know it's not the most interesting lore-wise, but the first act of TFA is pure perfection of fun popcorn action. The characters are likeable, the pace is lightning fast, and it's visually great too. JJ is not a good big-picture writer, but he's elite at directing a scene.

Say what you will about the sequels, The Force Awakens knew how to introduce its characters. Every character’s first scene remains memorable over a decade later.

@BenHowardOPT I think that difference is why the gulf exists. People who want to cheer for a winning team want to cheer for an unrepentant heel/villain team (e.g. the Heatles). People who like wholesome underdogs don't want to cheer for an overwhelming favorite.

Has there ever been a bigger gulf between the way opposing fans talk about a team and the actual team? OKC haters talk about this team as dirty and unethical and unwatchable, but they’re collectively the most respectful, warm-hearted, lovable team in the entire NBA.

@SirSnipeyy X-Wing series. Has Wedge as a major character, but he's not explored that much in the movies so it still mostly feels like a new character. Otherwise a huge ensemble cast of brand new characters.

I really hate that everything in Star Wars on screen HAS to be connected to a legacy character or even multiple. Skeleton Crew was refreshing if solely for being an entirely new cast of characters. Someone recommend me some books canon/or legend with unknown characters.
