I’m officially launching a national campaign to propose a constitutional amendment that finally gives Congress the power to expel a state from the Union when it repeatedly defies the U.S. Constitution and Supreme Court. My target: Hawaii. After their Supreme Court openly declared “there is no absolute right to keep and bear arms under the Second Amendment” and said they don’t care what the U.S. Supreme Court says in the Bruen case, they have proven they no longer wish to be part of a constitutional republic. The Union is voluntary only on the way in, not on the way out. It's time to fix that. - Step 1: Convince Congress to introduce and pass (2/3 of both houses) an amendment creating a lawful expulsion process. - Step 2: Ratify it in 38 states. - Step 3: Vote Hawaii out. The Constitution is not a suicide pact, and America is not a hotel. #ExpelHawaii

If I could watch any concert, I would undoubtedly pick the S&M concert. The fusion of metal and classical is exquisite, James’ voice is perfect, and the energy from Jason is unparalleled. The whole concert from beginning to end is amazing. My favorite song is No Leaf Clover.

Yesterday, I had a bizarre run-in at a record store in Mesa, AZ that still has me shaking my head. Phoenix’s vinyl scene is legitimately strong, about a dozen solid shops, and I’ve hit them all. One of the newer spots is Vinyl Command, open around two years or so. I’d been once before, roughly a year ago. The owner had peppered me with questions the entire time I browsed (“What do you listen to? What are you shopping for? What should I stock?”), then got defensive when I politely tried to exit. The inventory was 95% extreme/death-metal bands I’d never heard of, so it wasn’t a fit. I wrote the place off. Fast-forward to yesterday: I had time to kill, was already in the area, and figured I’d give it one more shot. The shop sits in a busy strip mall on a main drag, with a huge VINYL COMMAND banner over the door and a glowing OPEN sign. Hard to miss. As I approached, I spotted a small printed notice taped to the glass: WE ONLY SELL METAL MUSIC! ENTRY FOR SERIOUS BUYERS, SELLERS OR TRADERS ONLY! IN-STORE BROWSING IS RESERVED FOR PAYING CUSTOMERS. Fair enough. I’d already bought one record that morning and would grab more later, so I qualified as a “serious buyer” and walked in. The owner popped out immediately. - “What are you looking for?” Nothing specific. - “What’s your budget?” Don’t really have one. - “Need recommendations?” I’m good, thanks. - “You from around here?” (I answered that one; regretted it later.) He gave me a few minutes of peace while I flipped through bins, same wall-to-wall obscure metal. Near the exit, another sign: “DO NOT REMOVE ALBUMS FROM BINS UNLESS IT IS TO PURCHASE.” I was heading out empty-handed when he materialized 18” behind me, insisting I take a flyer and order online instead of “just looking around.” I declined. He kept pushing: “Why won’t you take the flyer?” Because I don’t want it, and I’m not buying anything. Leaving, I stopped outside to snap a quick photo of the door sign for my own “never again” file. He followed me out to the parking lot, glaring like he was ready to throw hands. I stopped, told him twice, firmly: “Do NOT follow me to my car.” He froze, but kept staring daggers until I was inside my car. As I pulled away, I gave him a cheerful wave and a “Have a nice day!” (Yeah, that was just for a little fun on my part.) Serious question: Why open a brick-and-mortar storefront, pay rent, hang giant banners, flip the OPEN sign, then act furious when someone walks in? What’s the business model here? I have two theories: - The owner is unstable, maybe off his meds, maybe just a loose cannon. Dude, put the Norwegian death metal record down and spin something a little calmer, like Metallica. - It’s a front. The shop keeps up appearances but actively discourages casual foot traffic so whatever’s happening in the back stays hidden. Either way, dude is a menace and Vinyl Command is now permanently off my list.
