A Democratic Party that's ideologically populist on economic policy, ideologically left on war and foreign policy, ideologically moderate on energy policy, and resolutely committed to personal freedom and individuality while maintaining a semblance of practicality is not necessarily a "coherent" ideology, but it's a version of the party that I think can win and sustain itself.

I’d put it a different way: the goal should be a national party brand that can span from Manchin to Mamdani, enabling Democrats to both sustain majorities and pass an agenda that’s coherent, but not necessarily ideological.
