When I worked at Sears in the early 90's, the people there built entire lives off those jobs. The guy running appliances had three kids, coached little league every weekend, and retired after 32 years with a pension. One of the women in customer service bought her first house working full-time there, and the older guy in hardware took the same vacation to the Ozarks every summer because he could actually afford to unplug for a week. The managers knew everybody by name, the Christmas bonuses actually meant something, and the store was packed every holiday season because business was booming. Nobody thought they were "stuck" working retail - it was honest work that paid enough to live with dignity. Somewhere along the way, corporations started making record profits while the people keeping the place running could barely afford rent. When exactly did a steady full-time job stop being enough to build a normal life?

Colbert got cancelled because CBS’ owner wanted to suck up to Trump. Over and over, billionaires are auctioning off our 1st Amendment. This isn’t about the rights of a TV host. It’s about all our rights to live in a country where the president doesn’t dictate who says what.

Looks like Trump is heading towards a worse Iran deal than the Obama deal he tore up nine years ago—with no plan to replace it. 1. Iran will likely have some de facto authority over the Strait of Hormuz. Routing, fees/tariffs/tolls. This in itself strengthens the regime. 2. Iran will maintain a nuclear program, with nothing approaching the Obama deal’s inspection architecture or intrusive verification regime. But Trump is desperate to get out.

From @DropSiteNews last night, reporting by @jeremyscahill on the new terms offered by Iran: The negotiations have been divided into two separate tracks, an Iranian official said, with one track focused on concluding an agreement declaring the end of the war, and the second related to the dispute over the Iranian nuclear program. The Iranian framework outlines a proposal where—following an initial agreement to officially end the war and an announcement of an end to the U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports—Iran would temporarily reopen the Strait of Hormuz and waive transit fees. “This arrangement will remain in place until the new governance regime for Hormuz, which Iran will announce soon, is finalized,” the Iranian official added. The official reported that this formula had been agreed to by Iran in response to the destructive impact of the conflict on global energy and food markets and requests for relief from regional, European, and Asian countries. In exchange, the U.S. would have to agree to release part of Iran’s frozen assets, as well as to create an international mechanism involving the U.S. and other countries that participated in the war to compensate Iran for losses. The Iranian position also mandates an end to the war across the region, particularly in Lebanon where Israel has continued to carry out a massive military assault despite a nominal ceasefire. After the conclusion of the agreement to end the war, as part of a subsequent negotiation on the nuclear file, Iran also laid out terms that would include commitments to not develop a nuclear weapon. In exchange, Iran would ask for recognition of its nuclear enrichment rights, which would remain limited for several years under the agreement. “Iran will voluntarily suspend enrichment above 3.6% for a period of 10 years. Existing uranium enriched above 20% will be diluted inside Iran with the participation of mediators and will be used domestically for peaceful purposes,” the Iranian official said. In regards to an Iranian commitment to not develop a nuclear weapon, “This will be a binding prerequisite in our view, provided that the country’s official rights are recognized, and it will be explicitly included in the formal texts of the nuclear agreement.” More:

Ossoff: I am hearing from Republicans who come up to me on the street, or they approach me at the airport, or maybe they have my number and they give me a call, and they're telling me that they are voting for a Democrat for the first time this year because they've just had enough. The abuses of power, the blatant self-enrichment and corruption, while the American people face all-time high prices for rent and groceries and a meal out at a restaurant and the power bill — the people have had enough. And I believe that a mighty wave is building to rebuke these abuses of power and to restore checks and balances.

My neighbor bought his house in 1987 for $74,000. He refinanced once. He paid it off. His property taxes are $1,800/year because of how long he's owned it. The exact same house next door just sold for $710,000. The 28-year-old who bought it pays $9,200/year in taxes. And $4,100/month on the mortgage. Same street. Same house. Completely different life. We didn't just price people out of homes. We priced them out of futures.

The only way to fully and permanently reopen the Strait of Hormuz is to respect Iran's sovereignty and stop bombing them. Call me crazy, but I think that sounds like a pretty reasonable solution.

HOLY CRAP! Alex Jones and Marjorie Taylor Greene just warned America about Trump trying to stay in power after his term expires. "That type of behavior is someone planning an idea over and over and over again. He constantly says it so that he can normalize the idea and test the support and test people's reactions, but saying it over and over and over again normalizes the idea. And I think it's incredibly dangerous and no one should ever accept it. Absolutely, absolutely not. There cannot be a third term. No, that's against our laws." Wake up America. When even these two are warning us about Trump you know it's getting serious.
