The jury in the Elon Musk vs OpenAI trial has found Sam Altman, co-founder Greg Brockman and OpenAI not liable on all claims because they said Elon Musk waited too long to bring his lawsuit. The jury said that Elon's claims were filed outside of the statute of limitations, deciding that he had three years to sue and he did not file on time. After the advisory jury found Altman and OpenAI not liable, the court, led by U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, agreed with the determination. C10K problem in 1999 a software engineer named Dan Kegel wrote an article that changed how web servers are built the question was simple how do you handle 10,000 concurrent connections on one machine at the time Apache used one thread per connection, each thread needed memory for its stack around 8MB and 10,000 connections meant around 80GB of RAM just for stacks the system spent more time switching threads than doing real work servers crashed long before reaching 10k connections this became known as the C10K problem

@nmuk @TrisH0x2A The default MPM does indeed still do that because of backcompat reasons, but there are plenty of other MPMs you can use that don't. Some don't support things like PHP in-server, but if you want to do that you likely don't care about serving millions of users from a single server.

Are you old enough to remember the golden age of text-mode DOS productivity tools? When hard drives were growing, users had to manage lots of files manually, and GUIs were still clunky or secondary/optional, many of these tools were hugely popular. If you had a PC in the 80s and 90s, I bet you had at least one of the following four. Peak popularity was probably between 1987 to 1994. XTree (and XTree Gold/Pro): Released in 1985 and was later called "perhaps the most popular DOS shell." XTree Gold (1989) was a massive hit, with over 3 million copies sold by 1991. Norton Commander (NC): First version from 1986, it became the "king" of DOS file managers in the late 80s/early 90s. It dominated through the mid-90s, with clones left, right, and center. PC Tools: Was a pretty strong competitor in the late 80s and early 90s, often second only to Norton products. It evolved into a full utility suite. Volkov Commander, DOS Navigator, etc.: These clones peaked in the early-to-mid 90s (Volkov from 1992 onward), especially on lower-end hardware where their speed and small size mattered most.

Like anyone else, game companies can be cheated, and I witnessed this several times. In 1993, we at id Software played Doom together over our internal network. Now, you have to realize that at the time, we thought few people would want to play by modem or over the nascent internet. But we wanted that functionality, because it was super fun and we liked it. Now, John Carmack didn't want to program the internet code. We hired a guy who lived in (IIRC) California to do the code remotely. The deal, as it was explained to me, was that he was finishing a project for his current company, and doing our code in his spare time, with his boss's knowledge. When his project was finished, he'd join us in Texas. Well, when we were ready for our internet code, we called his company in California and got the guy's boss. He laughed hard at us. He told us, "This guy is a good programmer, but he is a compulsive liar. He knows he can never hold a job anywhere else, and I get he hasn't done a lick of work on your connectivity stuff. He just took your money." Well ... the boss was right. We'd been swindled. Worse, we didn't have that code. So John Carmack spent 2 weeks quickly hammering together something that mostly worked, and then we released Doom. There was some kind of issue with the way we did it, that if Doom was being played with a lot of people on the same net, even if they weren't playing each other, it multiplied the information packets hugely and crashed the system. Within a month Doom was banned on basically every college campus in the country. So we hired someone to give us new, robust, code and in a month or two Doom was all it could be. Of course John Carmack's not to blame - his strength was in 3-D, not connectivity. Plus he had only 2 weeks to throw it together. That dude in California was the villain and he can rot. 1/4

Gaat niet over die kleine zelfstandige met één factuurtje per week. Maar zij die niet goed met een email of PC kunnen omgaan.

In some configs, the heat gradient which will indeed be there may be effectively invisible.

Het merkwaardige aan gesprekken met welgestelde, hoogopgeleide Nederlanders is dat Gaza vroeg of laat op tafel komt als een soort van standaard deugsignaal. Er ligt een verwachting in de stem van mijn gesprekspartners: de aanname dat ik, de ander, wel zal instemmen met hun opvattingen, zodat wij in alle wederkerigheid veren in elkaars kontgat kunnen steken over onze verhevenheid en chique afkeer van de Joodse staat. Die sneue vanzelfsprekendheid is niet alleen uiterst gênant, maar duidt ook op een dieper probleem. Voor dit type Nederlander bestaat ‘de casus Gaza’ namelijk niet als een historisch en geopolitiek verschijnsel waarin blinde Jodenhaat, diverse oorlogen, reli-ideologie en terreur samenkomen in een genocidale antisemitische cocktail. Gaza vormt voor deze lui vooral een eendimensionale bordkartonnen fantasie-utopie, een gemakzuchtige doodgecultuurrelativeerde waanvoorstelling, gevoed door emotionele hersendiarree. Dit postmoderne non-denken sluit aan bij een bredere neiging om internationale conflicten te reduceren tot stereotype rolpatronen, waarin de ene partij vanzelfsprekend dader is en de andere partij de rol van slachtoffer krijgt toebedeeld. In onze gesprekken blijkt regelmatig dat verschillende oorlogen door elkaar worden gehaald, dat cruciale momenten in de geschiedenis ontbreken of verkeerd worden geïnterpreteerd en dat de rol van regionale actoren zelden scherp in beeld is. Tegelijkertijd blijft de toon onverminderd vastberaden. Die combinatie van beperkte kennis en uitgesproken zekerheid geeft het debat een grotesk en obsceen karakter: overtuiging is belangrijker dan onderbouwing en ‘morele’ positionering weegt zwaarder dan de werkelijkheid. In die houding ligt ook een bredere culturele reflex besloten: de neiging om de hele wereld te benaderen vanuit ons eigen referentiekader leidt ertoe dat geopolitieke vraagstukken worden geïnterpreteerd alsof deze oplosbaar zijn met de instrumenten die in een westerse rechtsstaat werken. Dat perspectief creëert een psychose rond internationale verhoudingen die grenst aan randdebiliteit. Wanneer het gesprek vervolgens op mijn initiatief verschuift naar concrete gebeurtenissen en beslissingen, verandert de dynamiek in rap tempo. Zodra de geschiedenis van 1948 en 1967 ter sprake komt, zodra de keuzes rond zelfbestuur en territoriale concessies worden benoemd en zodra de gevolgen daarvan in kaart worden gebracht, verdwijnt de aanname dat we ons op dezelfde linkerbladzijde zouden bevinden als Hollandse sneeuw voor de Midden-Oosterse zon. De arrogantie maakt opeens plaats voor twijfel en de overtuiging dat de werkelijkheid eenvoudig te duiden is, begint te wankelen. Dat moment toont aan hoe dun de vernislaag is waarop veel van de progressieve overtuigingen gebaseerd zijn. We leven in een samenleving waarin de onderbuik de plaats heeft ingenomen van feiten. De intellectuele gemakzucht en schaamteloze domheid zie ik als tekenen van het beschavingsverval dat het Westen bedreigt. Laten we hopen dat het gezond verstand terugkeert voordat er wederom onomkeerbare rampen gebeuren.

In this context, it is becoming increasingly clear why military activity in Belarus has increased. According to intelligence, the construction of roads toward Ukrainian territory and the development of artillery positions are underway in the Belarusian border areas. We believe that Russia may once again attempt to drag Belarus into its war. I have instructed that appropriate channels be used to warn the de facto leadership of Belarus about Ukraine’s readiness to defend its land and independence. The nature and consequences of recent events in Venezuela should serve as a warning to the Belarusian leadership against making mistakes. It appears @Microsoft is actively suspending developer accounts with no warning or reason of various security tools like VeraCrypt, WireGuard and also Windscribe. We've had this VERIFIED account for 8+ years to sign our drivers. We've been trying to resolve this for over a month, and getting nowhere. Support is non-existent. Anyone know a human with a brain that still works at Microsoft and can help?
