@AlexCTaliadoros The WP opinion on local issues has long been ignorant and predictable. But wow!, these new ones are laughable.

If EDUCATION is your top issue, @Janeese4DC is the obvious #1: 🏫 She attends every hearing and knows the system. 🔧 She’ll fix our broken school facilities. 🚌 She’ll ensure OSSE buses run on time and kids get the help they need. In short, she’ll be the Education Mayor!
Janeese Lewis George@Janeese4DC

My plan for excellent schools for all. Because every student deserves access to excellent neighborhood public schools, support in and out of the classroom, and real access to opportunity.

@wmataGM Don’t worry, Randy — it’s just the Washington Post Ed Board. They are offended by a public service run well and need to find something in it to criticize. Thankfully fewer and fewer people are taking them seriously.

No one should have to worry if their home is safe.   This $400k settlement is a step toward justice for W4 residents who were put at risk by negligent construction. Developers who cut corners must be held accountable.   Grateful to AG Schwalb for fighting to put residents first.
AG Brian Schwalb@DCAttorneyGen

NEW: A developer will pay $400,000 to fix unsafe construction at a Ward 4 condo building. The construction was so faulty it left the building swaying in the wind — endangering residents and damaging their homes. After years of advocacy, residents will get badly needed repairs.

@tomsherwood Is this, however, the end of the Post having a dedicated DC education reporter?

Started right by calling the Kennedy Center by its legal name! No Trumpification. Tell us more about the stacked boards running the NCPC and Commission of Fine Arts.
Jonathan Edwards@jonathanreports

Excited to announce I'm the new arts and government reporter at @washingtonpost covering the Smithsonian, Kennedy Center, Library of Congress, etc — and how the Trump administration is reshaping those institutions to rewrite the American story. Tips welcome: Signal jle.11

We join the National Conference of State Legislatures in celebrating Legislative Staff Week. Kudos to these fine public servants As the Council’s legislative staff always says “If the public loves something the Council did, thank the staff. If not, then it was the Councilmembers”

Kenyan McDuffie has said he provided “much needed and focused oversight” over the CBE program. The AG just sued a company that fraudulently collected $13 million in contracts reserved for local businesses from 2018 to 2025. That is seven years of oversight. DC’s minority-owned local businesses deserved better.
Martin Austermuhle@maustermuhle

NEWS: @DCAttorneyGen is suing Sequoia Row Consulting LLC and its CEO Paul Lawrence for allegedly pretending it was a D.C.-based small business (while Lawrence lived in Georgia) in order to gain preferential access to D.C. contracts. It got 32 contracts worth $13 million.

Perhaps a bigger deal than their differences on these issues is their involvement (or lack thereof) on education issues. I’ve been at nearly every education hearing in the past decade. Don’t think I’ve ever seen Kenyan McDuffie at one. Janeese has led on many education issues. @maustermuhle @tomsherwood @cuneytdil @SamPKCollins

JLG’s Ward 4 record cuts the other way. ANC attendance. Calls returned. Showing up to hearings she doesn’t have to be at. That tells you who she’d hire. Operators in the weeds pick operators in the weeds. Managers who delegate from above pick loyalists who manage up

NEW: We're suing a contractor for defrauding DC government and stealing wages. Sequoia Row, whose owner lives in Georgia, exploited a program meant to help local businesses in DC. It fraudulently won $13+ million in DC contracts while cheating workers and real local businesses.

Ward 7 Dems / WUSA9 debate 🧵 This campaign is about a simple Q: Who do you trust to show up and fight for all of us in all 8 wards. My record: I've blocked extreme rent increases, banned utility shutoffs after Pepco overcharged us, and expanded the Earned Income Tax Credit.

Here's our first crack at what's in Bowser's 2027 budget: and, crucially, what's not in it. The cuts to childcare and paid family leave will generate tons of debate with the council. But there's a lot more too: DC Jail funding, RFK transportation money, even some tax hikes...

@maustermuhle The Pay Equity Fund is a subsidy that helps increase supply of childcare, which in turn helps keep prices down for families.

"Most families want more opportunities, more spots, and they want it to be less expensive. We don’t think that about the Pay Equity Fund. It’s not an affordability fund, it’s an income support fund. It’s laudable but it does not respond to what people are saying," she says.

NEWS: Today @MayorBowser unveils her proposed 2027 budget. It's $12.7 billion, a 3.3% decrease from last year. As expected, there are cuts to a key child care fund, as well as a paid leave program, and affordable housing. Healthcare for low-income residents is spared, though.
