The annual rufous hummingbird photo dump begins

Photos of the hummingbird in question. The last one is unsharp, but is the best front-on view of the throat patch I have.

A while ago I thought I saw a hummingbird with a small rhomboid throat patch. Chalked it up to weird light, but managed a crappy photo today. I think it might be a female androchrome morph rufous hummingbird, as described in this paper? 🤯 royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs…

Little does she know, she is immortalized in Colorado public records, because I was selected for jury duty in a sexual assault case a month later and had to explain to the attorneys, prosecutors, judge, and defendant why I was having a panic attack and couldn’t serve. 😑

I resent the fact that strategy for communities--my queer fam, my dad with cancer, my wife who is a teacher, my MIL daycare provider, my brother in healthcare--is not being seen in our culture as holistic, systemic insight. It's not reactive, "emotional", to be a community.
