Dear Pahlavists, Imagine if an American joined Al-Qaeda on September 12, 2001. That’s who you are to Iran. It’s as if you joined with the Mongols as they threatened to invade and sack Iranian cities. Excited with Or helped the Russians as they lopped off pieces of the Caucasus. Or sided with the British Empire as it tried to take full control of Iran’s tobacco sales. You served as a useful prop for a genocidal force that aimed and still aims to destroy the country, not the Islamic Republic. You cheered on war crimes that even most Americans opposed. You allowed yourself to be used and discarded for a pay-op planned in Tel Aviv. What your war got us is a new 20-year lease on life for the Islamic Republic of Iran. Congratulations. In the future, maybe stay out of politics. Stick to your insurance and accountancy scams, your lucrative but dull medical practices, your personal training or social media side hustles, or just living off of your wealth.

@lxiv___ @yannispappas This is not about tax rates. This is about tax revenue — how much money you collect. And top 1% pays 40% of taxes in the us while in Sweden 12%. Top 10% pays for 70% while in Sweden up to 40%. Sweden, a Scandinavian country, is closer to flat taxation than the us.

It may be the most progressive income tax system but total burden of taxation for each person, especially those at the bottom, is shaped mostly by other taxes, not income tax, chiefly VAT/sales taxes, payroll taxes, local taxes (I think his figure above does not even include local/state income taxes). In other words, he's kinda full of shit/posturing here although he's not wrong per se.

Many of them use their name recognition to extract more money. They sell a luxury product. But also, the low quality of the public schools gives them higher leverage so they can charge even more!
