If you believe there are 300,000 valid signatures on the Stay Free Alberta petition, I have a privately-owned pipeline to the West Coast to sell you.

From the inbox: Sturgeon Lake and Mikisew Cree Nations want Mark Carney to “withhold support for investments, projects, or MOUs in Alberta until the Premier clearly commits to rejecting any separatist referendum.”

The 'Firewall Letter' that guides Premier Smith was written in 2001, 14 years before Trudeau became PM. Her Chief of Staff helped add the separatism threat in 2021. #ABPoli #CDNPoli

“He is a nice enough guy, but I can’t imagine how he can say that with a straight face”—@nenshi on Minister Schow blaming the NDP for the separation conversation. He argues the UCP has done everything it can to make things easier for separatists. LISTEN: traffic.megaphone.fm/CORU5814712186…

Big bet from PM @MarkJCarney if this is true. Remember that PM Harper couldn't deliver shovels in the ground on Gateway in 10+ years, and TMX took almost 10 yrs despite expanding mostly on existing right-of-way. Less than 1.5 years to shovels? Get to work!

@onedery Complete trainwreck. It completely boggled my mind that Albertans (on all sides), that were BIG MAD at the floor crossing somehow gave her a pass when they manoeuvred her into UCP leadership. Memories & attention spans are short?!

Danielle Smith isn’t a separatist. She is, has always been, a destroyer. She was on Calgary School Board. Destroyed it. She had talk radio program. Destroyed it. Leader of Wildrose Party. Destroyed it. Premier of Alberta - she will destroy it. It is what she does, what she is.

These exchanges today in the #ableg are...wow. What does the NWC have to do with yesterday's ruling? Or democratic rights under the Charter? Although, I think we can see where the Premier is headed, with a big hat tip to @LukaszukAB.

@TheBreakdownAB This is appalling. Dani just finished giving $6000 raises to her people ... did they pay for those by silencing the court reporters? ALL Albertans should be appalled. Democracy dies in darkness. #abpoli #ableg

The judiciary IS part of our democracy. Enough of this "unelected judges" crap. We're not Americans. This is democracy at work - when the Legislative & Executive branches fail to protect treaty rights & Albertans, the courts will. Thank God! #ableg #abpoli #cdnpoli
Blaine Badiuk@BlaineBadiuk

I strongly support @ABDanielleSmith appealing the court decision, and I also believe Québéc has a vested interest in this as well. I believe strongly in a strong, free, sovereign Alberta WITHIN a united Canada! 🇨🇦 I also believe democracy, not unelected courts, shall prevail.

So, those who want to destroy our province and our nation lost in court big time. Smith's immediate response is to commit taxpayer funds to pay for an appeal of the decision. It is becoming clearer each day that Smith is the most ardent separatist of them all. #abpoli

It shouldn't really surprise anyone. You can't just bypass constitutional issues by removing an administrative process designed to review them.

I wonder how much of #abpoli taxpayer money has been spent on appeasing the separatists. Such a small minority of Albertans too. The legislation changes, ongoing court battles, the town halls, etc. Is this all just to distract from the AHS corruption scandal? How far will it go?

Danielle Smith makes it clear that she will continue to carry water for the separatists. As she does so, let’s remember what Margaret Thatcher said about referendums: they are "a device of dictators and demagogues.” Smith isn’t defending democracy, she’s making a mockery of it.
Courtney Theriault@cspotweet

BREAKING: Premier Danielle Smith says that while her government supports Alberta staying in Canada, she will be appealing a court decision that quashed a possible separatist petition/referendum.
