A strong “high decoupling” belief is that anti-car people have a very annoying personal/political aesthetic, which makes it all the more unfortunate that they are objectively completely correct about cars being the greatest risk to my kid’s well-being.

Structure prediction for up to 30k residues 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Boltz@boltz_bio

It has been great to collaborate with the @NVIDIAHealth team on adding Context Parallelism to the Boltz models! Announced in the keynote at #GTC, @NVIDIA showed you can now scale up Boltz-2 to predict structures up to 30k residues (up from ~2k)! 🤯 This opens the door to a number of very cool new applications, although performance starts to drop around 3-4k residues because the current models have only been trained on smaller crops. Try it out at: github.com/jwohlwend/bolt… 🧬

You can now train @physical_int style robots in 1 day for only $5k. Anvil’s devkits have all the hardware, software, controls, cameras, and more ready-to-go. (1/5)

If you’re paying any attention at all - and unfortunately a lot of people aren’t - you know that Seattle Public Schools is beset by serious challenges, many (imo) of their own making. Dunno about you, but I find it very troubling. Seattle is the most educated blue city in America, and one of the most affluent. So why are our schools in such trouble, and what can be done to fix what ails them? I’ll be talking about all that with our new SPS Superintendent Ben Shuldiner tonight (Tuesday) at the Block Table. It’s free and open to the public at the Rabbit Box at Pike Place Market. Our convo starts at 5:30, but if you’re going to attend come early and have a pre-funk HH cocktail to support the venue.

We lost 30,000 souls to death by overdose in the State of Washington over the last 13 years and tax funded PHRA thinks it’s cute to make valentines normalizing illegal drug use and paraphernalia (pipes/foil are also paid for by @KCPubHealth) @KCCouncil defund this program. 👇🏼

Blooski inherited my local politics scene and they’re currently cheerleading a plan to use a tax on million+ incomes to give a property tax break to homeowners. If there’s a more obvious case of modern populism being a fight between the wealthy and the merely affluent, I haven’t seen it.

Bellevue, WA is the new tech hub of the world. Companies with labs here now include OpenAI, xAI, Meta, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Salesforce, Alibaba, Tencent, Huawei, Baidu, and many others. (Sorry, Seattle - everyone is running away from you as fast as they can.)

@loganb @KromanDavid It’s not at all clear that “you still have to read the code” will remain true (some people already don’t)

It’s going to be a big shift but it’s overhyped. It’s more like having a team of college interns. It’s true that you mostly don’t write your code anymore, but you still have to read it and reason about the larger system—an intern can’t do that. When compilers were first widely available 60s and 70s), it was joeover for programmers because writing in a programming “language” was so much more productive than assembler. Systems got 100,000x more complex in response.

If even a fraction of this is true — and the whole argument is quite convincing — the Seattle economy will look very different in four years and it won’t really have anything to do with who’s in City Hall

@jtc_ai @ianwong_ @aviel every seattle founder at least considers the possibility that their biz would be better off in the bay area. the weaker our base of VCs, angels, LPs, and other founders, the more of them will choose SFBA agree w/ you that individual founders are heads down (as they should be)

@zachocean_ @ianwong_ @aviel In my offline experience, most early-stage founders I know are either heads-down building or focused on what they see as higher-order political risks. Minor tax policy just hasn’t come up much.

Imagine if WA had kept our policies from just 5 years ago. Business-friendly. Tech talent-rich. Lower cost. Proximity to CA (for HQ) and BC (for immigration). Now could’ve been the start of a new Silicon Valley - the AI Cascades. One could dream!
martin_casado@martin_casado

The amount of tax revenue @RoKhanna and his ilk have cost average California is unprecedented. Less for education. Less for medical care. Less for infrastructures. Perhaps the single most disastrous policy move in the history of Silicon Valley.

@jtc_ai @ianwong_ @aviel Not true in my experience And if it were true, why is that a flex? We have a pretty small startup ecosystem here. You don’t think policy matters when it comes to growing/maintaining it?

@ianwong_ @aviel I am surrounded by a lot of early stage founders (preseed, seed, series A). I haven’t heard one that cares about this, it’s just the radicalized people on Twitter.
