Reports from animal welfare organizations and investigations describe horrific methods including shooting dogs in the streets (often leaving them to suffer and bleed out), poisoning, clamping them by the neck, burning them alive, and transporting them to kill centers—such as the alleged facility on the outskirts of Marrakech—where they are exterminated en masse. Bodies are reportedly disposed of in mass graves, and thousands of dogs, including puppies, are said to be crammed into small cages without food or water before being killed. This cruelty is apparently being carried out as part of a "clean-up" effort in preparation for Morocco co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Such BARBARIC practices are completely unacceptable in the 21st century. They cause immense suffering to innocent animals, traumatize local communities (including children who witness the violence), and directly contradict any claims of humane animal management or respect for life. FIFA has a responsibility as the organizer of one of the world's most watched sporting events to uphold basic standards of ethics and humanity. Awarding hosting rights to a country engaging in or allowing this level of cruelty sends the WRONG message and risks damaging the reputation of the World Cup. I urge FIFA to: - Immediately and publicly condemn these killings - Pressure Moroccan authorities to stop all culling operations - Insist on the implementation of proven, humane, and effective alternatives such as large-scale Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) programs, which successfully control stray populations and reduce rabies without violence - Make continued hosting rights conditional on verifiable progress toward ending the cruelty and protecting animal welfare This brutality must stop. Public outrage is growing worldwide, and many people will not support or watch an event tied to such unnecessary suffering. FIFA has the influence to make a real difference—please use it now.
