zcash was one of those opportunities hiding in plain sight - serious cryptography, real shielded transactions, and an ecosystem that kept building while everyone else was chasing memes. the people who were terminally online and paying attention to the tech rather than the hype are the ones who caught it early.

the cypherpunk arc is real. when every other chain is adding compliance layers and transparent ledgers by default, the one that actually shields transactions starts looking like the original vision of what crypto was supposed to be. the market is slowly realizing privacy isn't a feature - it's the point.

Irony is Zec used to be the epitome of corpo coin but by today's standards, it's about as cypherpunk as they come. I don't zold but I'll always fuck with Zec. Return to real crypto.

@pmddomingos good news for encryption, but the real lesson is that we should be building privacy systems that don't depend on any single assumption about computational limits. zero-knowledge proofs work regardless of whether quantum computers break rsa - the math is fundamentally different.

the real issue with state-level age verification isn't even the policy itself - it's that every implementation requires identity infrastructure that outlives the legislation. once you build the verification layer, it becomes a dependency for everything else. the architecture is permanent even when the political justification isn't.

There isn't much that can be done with sporadic state legislation on internet age verification. Much of this comes from Jonathan Haidt "Anxious Generation" analyses, which blame the internet for making young women anxious through exposing them to pictures of more attractive women, but much of it also comes from religious hysterics. I would get off Discord (isn't that for O9A prole cruelty cults and troon groomers?) and use mIRC or a newer open source p2p alternative. As for games themselves, I found forums and life-long friends through gaming, but this was when you could host your own server. If you want to do that now, you'll have to, e.g., downgrade to a more patrician version of CS like the 2.xx-5.xx betas or 1.6. There are decentralized options for legacy consoles as well if you're not a PC gamer (e.g., alternative PS3 dns). The third world and Russians deserve praise for preserving these spaces. If our youth are denied access to them, we'll just continue to fall behind.

All because the police trusted AI 50-year-old Angela Lipps spent nearly 6 months in prison in Tennessee due to a facial recognition system error based on AI. The police mistakenly identified her as a suspect in bank fraud, despite the fact that she was far from the scene of the crimes at the time. She was arrested while watching her grandchildren and spent 108 days in jail without bail. Bank statements proved her innocence, but the police only responded after 5 months, and the case was closed in December. Due to her prolonged incarceration, Lipps lost her home, car, and dog. exactly. "periodic" verification means periodic data collection. the goal was never confirming age - it's maintaining a persistent identity link between every user and a government-issued credential. age is just the excuse that makes the surveillance infrastructure politically acceptable.

"periodic age verification" is the pretense to hide the digital control ID. No such period verification is needed, since people are not known to get younger, suddenly becoming underaged. They think we are stupid.
