People who have watched the Hawk as much as the Hawk watches the chain know that I've often been an advocate of @travelswap. Why? No, I'm not getting paid to tweet about them. (although I probably should). I am an early investor in TS, but no direct benefit to me when I tweet about them. So why do I mention them fairly often? Because I'm still amazed how lazy or misguided people are on how travel works. There's also skepticism that some crypto businesses actually offer legit products that aren't rugs. Often, people say they just assume Travel Swap (where you can pay with Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and dozens of other tokens, as well as credit card) may be more expensive than whoever else they book through because it's a small crypto start up. Lol. Take a look at this example of one of the nicest hotels in Salzburg I was just looking at for random dates. Both images represent the exact same booking. 1 Deluxe Room. 2 people. Hotel Sacher. March 24-March 27. Both are flexible cancellation. Image on the left is Amex travel. The right is Travel Swap. Amex cost - $1342. Travel Swap cost - $892. Now, to be transparent, you get a $100 property credit with Amex. Ok, so $1242 to $892. Or $350 more via Amex instead of Travel Swap. That is almost 40% more expensive. That's also not including a 5% discount code that is pretty easy to get on Travel Swap from certain partner organizations. Crazy the difference... Lastly, to be fair, this is a cherry picked example. 40% cheaper is a lot and definitely not the norm. But I've often found rates that are 5-20% cheaper and have rarely seen where the rate is more, but I'm sure it does happen occasionally. Hope you listen & double check Travel Swap next time...or enjoy being Amex's exit liquidity.
