Replies like "I'll just keep my cake at home" Yes, that is ideal for both sides. The restaurant doesn't want to incentivize you to bring in food from somewhere else, make them cut it, and waste a table eating food you didn't buy from them
Nol@neonnette

Cake cutting fees are standard fare at nice restaurants. When I worked as a pastry chef, we charged $16/person, which was the price of our cheapest dessert. You get to bring your cake in, the restaurant doesn’t lose money on dessert (and they cut and plate it for you, too).

@The_Davos_Man That time, I helped my brother roll a barrel of olive oil through Vienna. Sounds like the title of a short story from the 1700s.

@StephenJHein @neonnette I mean, good for you if people are dumb enough to pay that insane charge. I wouldn’t, but it sounds like you’ve got the right clientele

@wmata Metro, you're not getting from West Falls Church to Minnesota Ave by subway in 26 minutes 🤭, more like 40 minutes without shuttle service.

@wmata Cool. Now factor in the time difference in commute. My Metro-based commute would be 30 to 45 minutes longer than if I drive it (including a nice 10 minute walk). I'm fine spending extra money to save some time and to walk 50 feet from the parking garage to the building.

From my apartment in NW DC… Grocery store: 8-min walk Metro Station: 7-min walk Dry Cleaner: 4-min walk Coffee: 3-min walk Kalorama Park: 5-min walk Liquor Store: 3-min walk Restaurants: 3-7 min walk Target: 15-min walk It’s hardly an urbanist lie.

@realEstateTrent "Everything our family needs is just a short walk away." This is a stupid urbanist lie and we need to stop pretending it isn't.

Do… do you know how insulation works? We need to trap heat in the winter and trap cool in the summer. If it can trap heat, you can trap the conditioned air in the summer if you people would just use air conditioners like other first world countries.
𓁢 f.@vdysseys

@Winter23297296 we don't necessarily have ac the way they do and our infrastructure is meant to trap heat not keep it out. also our humidity is pretty bad.
