An Taoiseach @SimonHarrisTD is now claiming responsibility for the delay to phase 6a of BusConnects Not only does this completely undermine his own Minister for Transport, citing “confusion” as the reason to delay is an absolute nonsense

A good overview in @businessposthq of our landmark FOI success in case against the IDA today. Emphasises the importance of journalists (and citizens) being able to scrutinise expenditure of taxpayer funds by public bodies: businesspost.ie/news/ida-fails…

@the_ason @julie_senator @Provokethoughtz I don’t see how population is a factor. It’s not like the federal government is responsible for dealing with homeless people, that seems to mostly fall to state and city governments, just like in Norway, no?

@julie_senator @Provokethoughtz Also size is a factor. The US population is 60 times that of the US. Hell Norway is less than half the population of the state of Pennsylvania. The smaller the population the easier or is to provide services for them

A low carbon travel day today by #SailRail ferry from Dublin via Avanti West Coast and Eurostar to Brussels, but quite pleased that I managed to squeeze in a swim in a Camden pool in London en route from Dublin to Brussels.

@nijineko33 @rtenews Gardai don’t talk about ongoing investigations because it could compromise a future court case and let someone get off on a stupid technicality.

Most people don't realize how mysterious the Pyramids truly are. They're so old that Cleopatra lived closer to us than to their construction — yet Khufu's Pyramid is so precise it aligns north within 1/20th of a degree. Some more mind-blowing facts about them… 🧵

@EamonnRyan747 @GaryGannonTD Off the top of my head: less local pollution, making efficient use of road space and giving mobility choice to the less well off, the elderly and people with (otherwise) reduced mobility.

@joeKMorris @danobrien20 @MoorcroftRico I’m afraid the Jimmy Buffet idea that It’s Five O Clock Somewhere doesn’t apply to wind. Ireland is too small an area for that to be true. A blocking high pressure area normally covers the north east Atlantic Small reactors would fit in two 40ft containers and cud be deployed

The next government needs to repeal the ban on nuclear power generation or Ireland will miss out on the benefits of small modular reactors. Tech companies building them would add clean electricity to the grid, save taxpayers a fortune+cut imports My column thecurrency.news/articles/16762…

The Gardai announced at this meeting they will not be fining any vehicles parked on Mahon's new cycle tracks until the project is complete, est. completion is July 2025. Many sections are already complete...

If you live or commute near Mahon, Cork please attend this meeting. The new active travel infrastructure will be among the main talking points with a vocal minority of residents upset they can no longer illegally park. This project links directly to schools.

@shortword I’ll go out on a limb and say no. Your funds will up in the funding account quicker but it looks like a batch job that applies those funds to your credit card so I can’t see that changing any time soon. I’d happily be wrong.

My story on the Leinster House bike shed got an airing in High Court. Cited as an example of how key FOI laws are in holding wasteful public bodies to account. In this case, the IDA is fighting release of records (to me) about a controversial land deal: businesspost.ie/article/idas-f…
