@CarlaGericke @JimOstrowski They seemingly don't understand libertarianism at all!
English

L/R are cultural preferences that have nothing to do with the philosophy of libertarianism.
The people furthering this L/R divide should be regarded with deep suspicion.
In the Free State, for about 15 of its 20 years, we TRANSCENDED this polarized thinking by UNITING as FREE STATERS under a "live and let live" banner.
Now, some power-hungry clowns are trying to divide and conquer.
The Silent Majority is getting tired of their noise, though.
English

Grok for the win.
Yeah, that’s a solid point. Libertarianism as a coherent idea predates the modern left-right spectrum by over a century — think Locke, the Levellers, and classical liberals in the 1600s and 1700s. The terms “left” and “right” only really stuck after the French Revolution in 1789.
So trying to shove libertarianism into a box that didn’t even exist yet is kinda backwards. The ideology’s older than the labels people keep trying to pin on it.

@JimOstrowski As a legal theory, libertarianism isn't left or right.
In practice, most libertarians are left or right and it tends to be only the left-wing libertarians who deny this.

@JimOstrowski @LPNH I still think the left/right political scale is a propaganda ruse to exclude liberty from the discussion. If an ideology has no place on the political scale considered the mainstream, it doesn’t exist.

The left libertarians running the Libertarian Party not only disaffiliate it's most popular affiliate @LPNH, but it just blocked its most popular Libertarian Party member, Jeremy Kauffman.
The US needs a "Right Libertarian Party",

Don't fund their mosques.
Don't let the state steal from you to fund them, to populate them, to motivate them.
Don't sell to them.
Don't let the state force you to sell to them.
You complain about problems the state creates, and I say, "Yes, let us abolish the state that is creating those problems."
English

The rule for libertarians is do what you want, as long as you don’t hurt others nor take their stuff.
The rule for authoritarians is utilize the state to hurt others and take their stuff.
It's shouldn't be surprising that we don't get along.

From your comments I realize I must clarify my use of "left-" and "right-" libertarianism. I've upset folks by a different use of those terms that many in the liberty-for-real Free State movement readily see, but which diverges from how those terms have been used in the liberty-in-their-heads Authoritarian-49 liberty communities.
Our colloquialism of "left libertarian" describes a person who has a universalist view of human capability coupled with a structuralist view of achievement. That is, someone who believes that we all share the same baseline human capabilities and that soocial institutions, cultures, and privileges dictate success.
Our colloquialism of "right libertarian" would be the converse: a particularist view of human capability coupled with an individualist view of achievement. That is, someone who believes human capabilities (talents, intelligence, traits) are inherently unequal from birth, and that a fair marketplace is where talent and effort alone determine success.
Both of these perspectives can be expressed in an authoritarian or a libertarian frame. Left- or right-authoritarians will try to impose their frames through state coercive violence, whereas Left- or right-libertarians will simply nag and shun their frame on folks.
This is what I believe some of our biggest intra-libertarian battles are over -- at least in the American "libertarian" tradition.
Does this make any sense to you?

@BWalkerTTAGGG @JimOstrowski The Libertarian Party came into existence in '71 because of Nixon's price controls.
English

@JimOstrowski You know that's not true, Jim. FDR actually had full-on communist price controls on in the 1930s. The Supremes struck that down, but a lot more of the New Deal died in 1946. Read Selgin's book: barnesandnoble.com/w/false-dawn-g…

@LPNH What about contracts allowing drag queen story hour on private property? Same with abortions?
How do us libertarians stop these morally corrupt things?
English

Respectfully, this is a distinctly left-wing version of libertarianism.
Libertarianism is a legal theory of property rights and contract.
It allows for the creation of exclusively white and conservative Christian areas just as much as it allows for pornography and hard drugs.

Avens O'Brien@avensobrien
@SmarterGameShow @LpmcBryce This is the beauty of the Libertarian party. A pastor and a pornographer can sit side by side and vote to not impose their personal preferences on anyone else.
English

@TerdFer60681216 @LPNH Tell him yes....initiate force against him no...
English

@LPNH A pastor who doesn’t tell a pornographer to stop sinning and accept Christ has failed in his sacred duty to God.
English

Harry Browne was one who opened the door by calling libertarianism “fiscally conservative and socially liberal.”
I didn’t know when I heard those words that those traits had something antiauthoritarian in common.
