A few weeks ago, one of our portfolio companies bought out current investors (for a positive return) resulting in the founders and team now owning 100% of the business. Going to write a blog post about this. What do folks want to know?

@levie Damn right, but not everyone gets to be quarterback, or know every inch of the field. Everyone has a job to do.

Tricky thing about VC-led markets and movements is the asymmetry between VC and operator. A VC can make any number of bets, and actually needs to deploy capital. They also don’t have to be close to customers, so can rely on abstractions and theories, but those don’t pay bills.

@packyM Tiger can play that game, no problem, cause their cost of capital is lower than VC. They return 12-14% IRR to LP, and they’re rockstars. A traditional VC needs to deliver at least 2x that to stay out of the death zone. >3x to be called a rockstar.

30m pre-money valuations on pre-product, 1st time founders is a real thing. This is NOT good for the VC OR the founder. VCs doing these deals view your company as pure option value (price does not matter). Do you really want your baby to be someone elses lottery ticket?
