Just after 9pm, Oakland Fire joined units from @BerkeleyProFire, @EBRPD and @ContraCostaFire to stop forward progress and contain a vegetation fire near Centennial Drive & Grizzly Peak. The incident is under control. No homes were immediately threatened. Fire under investigation.

Today Berkeley Firefighters met up with Alameda FF L689 and several other trade unions to canvas the city of Alameda for our Mayor Jesse Arreguin. Berkeley Firefighters along with the California Professional Firefighter have endorsed Jesse for District 7. Go get em Jesse!

Well, the time has come…my Berkeley coverage has ended. (This will be a bit of a long tweet, click to read the full thing) Thank you for an amazing ~2 years! All the recent comments have meant so much to me. I am very grateful that the account had such an impact, and I will miss doing this so much. I am graduating @UCBerkeley tomorrow and heading back to LA on Sunday. It’s been amazing and I will come visit—I promise! Some stats: On average this account posted ~284 tweets every week The most common calls were Fire Alarms, Suspicious Person(s), and 459 Autos The radio system (since 8/23) has recorded over 245,000 transmissions. The max listeners on the radio system at the same time reached 250 during a critical incident Typically, the radio system had over 2.5k visits each month These systems are now offline. I am working to make the recordings available for historical sake. To everyone who I met in person or tagged me with things going on, it really helped! Thank You! Berkeley firefighters rescued a hiker Friday who slipped off a trail into a creek just below a small waterfall. Fire crews “converged on the scene to treat, package, and extricate the patient using a rescue rope system,” @BerkeleyProFire said. They shared this video.

As our beautiful city grows more vertically and with increasing density, firefighters have been struggling to keep up with demand. Our stations are in disrepair, our staffing model must retool in order to serve Berkeley’s new skyline, and our services must keep up.
