My father did this. Just straight up quit one day after a meeting and drove home. Retired. At 56. There was ZERO discussion with my mother prior to this. No big hoopla. No talking about it for years. No philosophical countdown. He just did it. And that was that. Done.

The S&P 500 is down 7.3% in 2026. It's usually up 2% by this time of year on average. US stocks are underperforming 75 years of their own history.

Once you enter your 50s and especially your 60s, former successful savers and investors should start focusing more on capital preservation and spending, and how they plan to spend. It takes courage to be realistic about lifespans and to accept that you can’t take it with you.

When we compare ex-US developed performance, Dimensional/Avantis is better than Vanguard (absolute and risk adjusted) even before taxes. And they have lower dividends & better QDI, so taxes bite less. Best example that low ER (~22bps vs 3bps) is not everything @ServoWealth
