It’s staggering just how many responses British people have to “how are you?” “Fine” “Surviving” “Getting there” “Living the dream” “Fair to middling” “Same old” “Bearing up” I could go on. The list is practically endless.

@fesshole ‘Main’ present was always from us and the sack presents were from Father Christmas.

I hate the idea of my son believing in Santa/elves and that they bring him his presents. Am I selfish for wanting the credit for buying them for him? I work hard to provide for him and I don't want some imaginary twats taking credit for it.

Does anyone else have an old memory of all the coats and jackets being thrown on your parent's bed when people came over? Did I dream this?

Today I turn 27 YEARS OLD. Which means 11 YEARS AGO I was on Educating Yorkshire. I am so fortunate to live life sharing the power of teachers. I am proud to be someone who stammers, something one teacher helped me to accept in the classroom. Thank you to everyone for the continuous support #EducatingYorlshire #PowerOfTeaching #ThankYou

Twitter to rebrand as X later today. Maybe I’m just old, but fuck that. I’ll still be calling it Twitter. I mean, ‘Olay’ is still ‘Oil of Ulay’ as far as I’m concerned, I still call a ‘Daim bar’ a ‘Dime bar’ and ‘Lilt’ will never be ‘Fanta Pineapple & Grapefruit’ to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

@RogersHistory I left teaching last summer after 26 years. Was hoping to teach until I retired but work life balance became unmanageable. Worried about pension contributions but reevaluated my priorities. So many experienced, highly qualified teachers leaving 😩

I know there’s been talk of this country running out of teachers for years, but I genuinely think that ‘talk’ will soon become a reality. Not a shortage or cutting corners - literally no one to stand in classrooms in front of classes. Wonder what happens then? It’ll be too late.

Today I was tracked down by an ex-pupil and received this message. The moment I read this, I burst with pride and emotion. This is what we do it for, fellow teachers. 😭 😊🙏🏽

@samuelcwhart A colleague of mine brought round a lovely ready meal, pre prepared salad and two bottles of beer. So thoughtful and I remember this 23 years later.

@RetirementTales When I started teaching 26 years ago this was a regular thing. The office phoned orders ahead so everything was ready as we arrived. Friday pm always happened to be ‘choosing’ too 🤣 Then there was the crafty cigarette at break in the shed behind my classroom.

In the old days, some teachers used to head to the pub for lunch on a Friday. It was a well-being thing, before well-being was a thing. Join us tomorrow for a pub lunch. It'll be like old times, except now it's virtual. Order your drink, bar meal & jukebox song here ⬇️⬇️⬇️ 🥛🍽🎶

@SoVeryBritish Just got back from Valencia. Discovered some black steps outside a church which were so warm from the sun. We returned there several times during our visit for a warm sit down.

Shoutout to everyone who goes on holiday, sees all the main sights and famous landmarks, yet ends up with their favourite bit being a random moment in a nondescript place. “The best part? No, not the cathedral. Probably the sandwich we had in that petrol station when it rained”

Lately I’ve been writing tweets I WANT to send but professionally think I shouldn’t. I then save them to my drafts and let them sit there so I feel like I’ve sent it but I haven’t. That’s my slight release for the day 😂
