DRUNK UNC REPRESENTATIVES: Two intoxicated united naga council (UNC) representatives drove into Hengbung Kuki Village in an Alto while Senapati Police were present announcing the 6 PM curfew. When stopped, they caused a disturbance, arguing and scuffling with Kuki villagers. A search revealed dozens of beer cans and few machetes in their possession meant for the enforcers of UNC announced Shut Down in UNC's influenced territory. The Kuki CSO Working Committee in Ukhrul has firmly rejected the recent remarks by Mr. Sword Vashum, TNL President and the spread of misinformation around April 18th, Tangkhul ambush incident which the Kuki community has consistently denied any involvement. Baseless blame only fuels tension and endangers innocent lives. Provocative rhetoric and calls for retaliation reflect a failure of responsible leadership as it is leading the misguided innocent Tangkhuls in harm's way and have worsened the situation. We urge @YKhemchandSingh @manipur_police to take immediate action against such inflammatory statements. Kuki villages in Ukhrul are government recognized and misleading claims about land or status are false and disrespectful. The Kuki CSO-WC also categorically states, "While we remain committed to peaceful coexistence and dialogue, we state with equal clarity that we will defend our villages and our people with full resolve if threatened. Tangkhul militants, backed by NSCN-IM elements, have been unleashing sustained terror, even now as we speak, against the Kuki people in Ukhrul, clearly aimed at provoking violence and driving them out of their ancestral land. Just last month, two innocent Kuki villagers, Thengin Baite and Thangboimang Khongsai, were brutally murdered by Tangkhul militants under the same pretext. Despite such grave provocations, the Kuki people who are a peace loving community has exercised remarkable restraint, choosing not to retaliate and instead placing faith in the government and the rule of law. Yet, when their designs failed to ignite retaliation, these militants have now stooped to deflection, falsely blaming unsuspecting Kuki people for an ambush that occurred deep within Tangkhul-controlled territory that too near a Tangkhul village. This was never an isolated incident. Just weeks ago in late March, 4 NSCN-EF cadres were killed by NSCN-IM in factional violence in Kamjong, widely seen as part of the same entrenched and bitter rivalry. What unfolded today is a continuation of that cycle of retaliation, where scores are settled with bullets. Innocent travellers along the MT Kasom–Imphal route were caught in the crossfire, leaving two critically injured and five vehicles badly damaged. Dongsum Kuki Village Authority firmly rejects the false and defamatory claims made by Tangkhul's Sinakeithel Village Authority in a statement on (17/04/2026). There is no individual named “Seipu Doungel” in Dongsum. Baseless allegations and propaganda will not go unchallenged.
