@MrsCMFrancis I’ve also read if the mom is smoking weed it can delay ovulation in their cycle. It can make it late enough that it’s too late to implant successfully

Dude this is WILD
Anish Moonka@anishmoonka

The research behind this is wild. Your sperm carries a set of instructions that tell your genes when to turn on and off. A Duke University study found that THC rewrites those instructions. The more weed in your system, the bigger the changes. It goes straight for the genes your future embryo needs in its first week of life. I had to read the "day 3 crash" part twice. For the first three days after fertilization, an embryo runs entirely on the mother's DNA. Day 3, the father's genes switch on. If those genes carry cannabis damage, the embryo just stops growing. Fertility doctors see this happen in their labs: embryos that fertilized fine and looked healthy on day 2 go completely still by day 5. Boston University tracked 1,535 couples trying to have a baby. Men who smoked weed once a week or more doubled their partner's miscarriage risk. That number held up even when the woman herself never touched cannabis. And the miscarriages clustered in the first 8 weeks, right when the father's damaged DNA would be doing the most harm. Duke also found that the specific genes THC alters in sperm overlap with genes linked to autism. One of those genes, called DLGAP2, helps brain cells communicate with each other. It was changed in cannabis users' sperm. When researchers bred THC-exposed male rats and checked their offspring, the same altered gene pattern showed up in the pups' brains. The damage crossed a generation. Weed has gotten way stronger over the last 30 years. THC content was about 4% in the 1990s but nearly quadrupled to 15% by 2018, and modern dispensary strains regularly sit at 20-30%. Concentrates go up to 95%. Quitting for about 11 weeks (one full cycle of sperm production) reverses some of the DNA changes. Not all of them. Duke's lead researcher says men should stop at least 6 months before trying for a baby. Half of your kid's genetic blueprint comes from you, and right now, THC is editing that blueprint before conception even happens.

@Mark_Sisson My 4.5 and 3 year old would LOVE this. I’m 4 weeks postpartum and I need to do this training just so I don’t injure myself in my late 30s keeping up with them

That is great training for kids. It's making them faster, stronger, more explosive, and more resilient. It's the perfect training for every kid, even if they don't play sports. Especially maybe. It would be great if we could return to the time when kids spent hours every day wandering the neighborhood, jumping down from things, climbing trees, playing pickup games, but that world doesn't exist anymore. Evolutionarily novel problems often require evolutionarily novel solutions. This kind of training from @JoeyBergles fits the bill
Cons@CaptainCons

If you put your kid in this “training” at 7yo it is nothing more than a fancy daycare At 7-14yo your kid doesn’t need training or to specialize in a sport. They need to be a kid. Play multiple sports. Play pickup sports with their friends outside. Not every waking moment needs to be scheduled for kids. If you disagree with me then go listen to all the pro athletes who say the same thing

@RizomaSchool There’s definitely a segment that’s been convinced they have low supply because the hospital sabotaged them from day one having them supplement with formula. I know a couple of women like that and I hesitate to correct as I don’t feel like it’s my place.

you can just admit you didn't feel like it. i'd respect it more than lying and saying you were forced to.
Anna Matson@AnnaRMatson

@JulesDiner More than half of babies are formula fed by 3 months but less than 5% of moms can’t produce. It is an absolute fact that most formula fed children have a mom that can produce, but choose not to breastfeed.

@CDES_SEDC I am following Mark Hyman! I found him on wellness with Arielle. Yes, and I think that they’re not as disgusting as it sounds because some types are just in pill form and you just swallow a pill and that’s the fecal transfer.

Today I learned that when a baby is born via C-section, they miss out on that initial dose of Lactobacillus from the birth canal, which is basically like a starter kit for their immune system. Typically, babies born through C-section have a slightly higher correlation with asthma, allergies, and Type 1 diabetes. Apparently, some practitioners have begun to explore "swabbing" C-section newborns with the mother’s vaginal fluids, a process called "vaginal seeding." Has anyone heard of this?

I think I’m gonna need a Counsel of Moms group text. Anyone want in? Keep it muted, idc, just promise to pop in occasionally bc I will be begging for personal experiences (eg. are regressions real or are babies just allergic to consistency?)

@simonsarris According to the state of MA guidelines, my 4.5 year old is already 2/3 of the way through the first grade requirements for second grade readiness. I wouldn’t want to waste her time making her sit through kindergarten and first grade when the time comes.

It’s fun dressing a baby in fashionable clothes without the common dinosaurs and ugly graphics and paw patrol designs but then your baby gets to be 4 and 5 and he gets really specific interests like mako sharks and the amount of rings around planet Saturn and velociraptors and you find a shirt with that very exact thing on it and you envision how joyful he’d be to receive it and wear it so you compromise on your sense of style. There’s also a way to go about it that still looks elevated. Specific color palettes, corduroy pants, cuffed jeans, cut off jeans and bold red socks and weird prints and layered shirts. Yes son you can wear your T. rex shirt and I think it would look great with your muted greenGingham pants

@ouranometrian2 I just had my third. My second came in 3 hours. Active labor for me this time was 2.5 but weirdly my water broke at 230 am then just kind of early labored on and off for 12 hours.

@GreatLakesWife_ I am convinced that swaddling is one of the main causes for babies not settling or waking up often The moment we stopped with my son (around that age) he slept much much much better

The snack obsession needs to stop. I will not be bringing snacks to the park unless we plan on being there for hours on end. Kids can play without constant snacking!!! 🗣️
Ashley Fitzgerald@RizomaSchool

The reason I get all uppity about things like snacks, screens, water bottles is this constant stimulation for kids is quite literally and obviously making kids who are in significant cognitive decline relative to previous generations. There is boatloads of research on this!

Gave the 3yo a little garden tools kit & some gloves & seeds with an organizing tote for Easter. She was out there for hours yesterday and when we got home today she ran & put on her garden clogs & got her tools & said “Mom want to hold hands & go work in the garden?”🥹

My parents have twenty grandchildren and one more on the way. My dad works full time. Most days, my mom is helping one of us with our kids (usually my pregnant sister or my sister with health issues), but she doesn't have time to be a daycare for everyone.
Nina@NinaPanickssery

Genuinely curious—why don’t more people use their own parents/kid’s grandparents for childcare as opposed to daycare/preschool/nannies (which seem more common)? Is it common for boomer grandparents to show disinterest in their grandchildren?
