@joybhattacharj IIRC, India failed to cross 250 across 6 games in the first two ODI world cups. In 60-over games.

The art of Hindi Cricket Commentary in the 1970s and 1980s! Hindi cricket commentary in the 1970s and 1980s was marked by very strict adherence to the language. Using English terminology was discouraged (unless asbolutely ncessary) and that led to the development of a very disinct Hindi cricket vocabulary that almost everyone who followed cricket in India on the radio or television in this period will be familair with, although I am sure not everyone will know their exact meanings even now. Here are some distinct Hindi cricket commentator terms and their meanings in conventional Engish. Ballebaazi and Ballebaaz: Batting and batsman/batter Gendbaazi and Gendbaaz: Bowling and bowler Harfanmaula: All rounder Khabbu: Left hander Daayein haath ke gendbaaz/ballebaaz: Right hander Salaami Ballebaaz: Opener or opening batsman Balle ka baahri hissa: outside edge Balle ka andruni hissa: inside edge Madhya Kram: Middle order Gilli: Bails Kshetrarakshan: Fielding Madhyam Gati ke Gendbaaz: Medium Pacer Teevra Gati ke/ Tez Gendbaaz: Pace bowler Pagbadha: Leg before wicket Chaukka or Chaar Run: Four Chhakka or Chhe Run: Six Dus run do wicket ke nuksaan par: 10 for 2 (for the loss of 2 wickets) Dastaane: Gloves Ausat: Average Seema rekha: Boundary Anya: Extras I am sure there were many others. The score was told in Hindi which could be a little confusing. Some of these terms have survived. But most have disappeared. And while they did confuse me quite often (I still have to think when the score is told in Hindi) , I sometimes miss them. They had a gentle ring of authenticity to them...something uniquely our own. Even today, when I hear "Khabbu spin gendbaaz apna kshetrarakhshan saajate hue..." ("Left arm bowler arrnaging his field), I close my eyes and I think I can hear the voices of Ravi Chaturvedi, Sushil Doshi, Dr. Narottam Puri, Jasdev Singh, and so many others. And I smile. @Raja_Sw @siddtalks @pradeepmagazine @anandkumarn @drippingashes @apmahapatra @VatsMusings @vijivenkatesh #Hindi #HindiCommentary #Cricket #HindiCricket #IndianCricket (Image: Tiger, Narottam Puri and Sushil Doshi in 1980)

It was one of the dullest speeches I ever heard. The Agee woman told us for three quarters of an hour how she came to write her beastly book, when a simple apology was all that was required.

Kevin-Prince Boateng: “When I arrived at Milan, I was very energetic in training and I used to shout a lot to ask for the ball. A week later, Pirlo called me over and brought a teammate who spoke English to translate. Then he said, ‘Tell him not to shout.’ I asked, ‘What is he trying to say to me?’ Then Pirlo replied, ‘If you shout, the opponents will know you’re free. If you’re free, I’ll have already seen you."

Surely you’re joking, @EurekaForbes? My water filter stopped working and the earliest I can book a technician visit is Thursday? Is this some bizarre way of trying to boost sales?

@AMP86793444 @KirtiAzaad Different game, probably the SOZ one. There’s a pic of the Delhi Test on @ESPNcricinfo which has both Boycott and Kirmani in sweaters. Stands to reason, for a winter game at the Kotla.

Here’s a question. Who is the wicket keeper here? As per scorecard for the game Syed Kirmani was the WK. I don’t think this is him. Is that you @KirtiAzaad sir? Or is this pic from a different game although I have no reason to believe the original poster could be wrong.

On 23rd December 1981, Geoff Boycott broke Garry Sobers’ Test record of 8,032 runs playing for England v India in Delhi becoming the leading Test match run-scorer at that time. This was his penultimate Test match. He played 108 Test matches scoring 8,114 runs at 47.72.

@ShekharGupta Tanush Kotian. Genuine off spinner who tosses the ball up. But we pick T20 all rounders based on IPL performances and end up with dart throwers who need bowler friendly pitches to take wickets.

Since Bhajji debut in 1998 can’t think of many (if any) home Tests where India played without a frontline right-arm off-spinner… Where is India’s spun talent?

There are plenty of specialist bat options with stellar FC records - Tilak Varma, Karun N, Easwaran or even DDP/Gaikwad. Rinku and Sarfraz could also be worth a punt, though they bat at 5 or below. Playing all rounders and t20 specialists at 3-4 is a recipe for failure.

India has seen legendary combos like Vengsarkar/Vishwanath, Sachin/Dravid and Pujara/Kohli at 3-4 in the batting order. Now we have a joke pair of Sai S and Washi. This mgmt doesn't care about Tests. Also the bizarre persistence with NKR, who doesn't belong in any Test team.(1/2)

New issue with @amazonIN - delivery partners fraudulently marking as delivered. Complaint through the app received no response. A shower curtain being stolen is a bit odd, though.

Perplexity just quietly dropped a 42-page internal guide on how they actually use AI at work. What I found most useful: → How they automate the small stuff. Email, meeting prep, research (all done by AI) → Using AI to amplify your curiosity, not replace it. → Their prompting playbook is simple, practical, and genuinely good. Comment “AI” and I’ll send it to you for free.

I order from @BlueTokaiCoffee as they deliver freshly roasted beans in a day. Sadly, not any more. They now ship it 4m a central roastery in BLR and it takes a week to reach. This, after a 30% price hike. Scale shouldn't come at the cost of customer experience.
