@IMAO_ I disagree. I don’t think Jackson is stupid, but she has let her rational thought be consumed entirely by motivated reasoning. Every last IQ point in her mind is trying to come to the conclusion she wants to be true.

@captgouda24 That remark was less of a vote of confidence in the average Bostonian than it was a condemnation of Harvard faculty. The faculty are more competent, but also more out of touch. It’s not unreasonable to prefer awareness of problems but not solutions to no awareness of problems.

@ConservYIMBY @JeremiahDJohns Allow for a distribution of industry shocks. Putting the target higher allows more adjustment, because rather than have (for example) real wages rise 2% over market clearing with 0% inflation, you just have nominal wages stay put.

@captgouda24 @JeremiahDJohns I understand how sticky wages make deflation problematic, but why would that carry through to 0% inflation? Is it just that there will be slight deviations around that 0%, and wages will be nudged towards unsustainability? That seems quite minor, so I suspect I'm misunderstanding

@ConservYIMBY @JeremiahDJohns The simplest model for this is if we allow wages to be rigid going down, but not up. Also grant that the central bank is controlling inflation through changes in the interest rate on interbank loans.

Genuinely, what is the point of the NY GOP? They're super NIMBY, far moreso than the Dems. They support an egregous retirement age of 55 for public employees.
These are supposed to be the things the conservatives are bulwarks against.

Claude Code has a regex that detects "wtf", "ffs", "piece of shit", "fuck you", "this sucks" etc. It doesn't change behavior...it just silently logs is_negative: true to analytics. Anthropic is tracking how often you rage at your AI Do with this information what you will

The autonomy of the embryo itself is violated, and in an even more severe way than sterilization.

That's not happening here. No one forces parents to do embryo selection.

No one actually opposes eugenics. They hear “you can make your baby smarter” and ignore the historical horrors wrought by version 1.0 of the ideas they’re accepting.
People only oppose eugenics being practiced in visible ways, but when made invisible, they happily endorse it.

We say "colonial" for both a big migration that populates a distant land with your own people, like Greeks founding cities, and also for sending some soldiers and administrators to rule a foreign people, like the Ottomans or the East India Company. But they are nothing alike.

I’m very old and so remember when local politicians wanted to ban ridesharing apps for costing taxi driver jobs. Now the jobs they didn’t want to exist in the first place must be protected.

More and more politicians are suggesting that Waymo and AVs more broadly should be legalized only after studies can show that they won't impact ride share jobs. This is a reasonable-sounding rule that would also ban buses, bike lanes, and car ownership in general.
