@Uggg @JFr4ser @G79Berg @Draconianwrath_ @zaelefty One developmental pathway dominates in the initially ambiguous cases. Tests and scans can be done to find out which has. Waiting for a while can help as well for super rare ones. Most people with OT-DSD are female. Some are fertile. Males are rarely fertile.

@JFr4ser @Daisycat32 @G79Berg @Draconianwrath_ @zaelefty You're adding parameters that weren't in the orginal premise upthread, which was about gamete production. Back to the question just asked, are you familiar at all with the diagnostic process involved with OT-DSD and how is sex determined? Is there any subjectivity involved?

Intersex implies “between sexes.” Such a scenario does not exist—a misnomer. There are rare sex development disorders that impact males or females, however. And I’ve devoted the last 9 years to studying that research, writing two books, producing an animated series, and more.

@alisonrebecca @mara_yamauchi Competition is part of the fun. Why should only men have that side of it? That is what is done when males are put in the female category. It is just wrong.

@mara_yamauchi I find it sad you are obsessed with parkrun which is meant to be a fun non-competitive event and a company that for over two decades has done nothing but good! FFS leave it alone to continue what it does well.

At least 9 males ran in the Female category in UK parkrun today. One got 1st Female. His total haul of 1st Female finishes is well over 100 now, and thanks to him, the total number of 1st Female finishes held by men (that I’m aware of) is now 290. He also got 3rd by age grade…

@emmeejacobs @mara_yamauchi People enjoy doing well in their categories, especially coming first occasionally. It is on strava as well. I don't run, but I skate and often get crowns on strava. I will be very pissed off if the guys claiming to be women beat me. Luckily they aren't good enough skaters yet.

@mara_yamauchi As a TERF who doesn’t run, I dont understand why there are categories in Parkrun if it isn’t a race. Why not just record personal times? Do most runners care about who came first? Isn’t it supposed to be Sunday morning fun? Just keep the loos & changing rooms single sex!

There is no such thing as intersex. There are rare people with congenital sex development disorders—something you don’t have. Changing your secondary sex characteristics with cross-sex hormones does not change your sex. It merely causes symptoms that mimic an endocrine disorder.
Arctic@neco_arctic

@BopBoopBeepBeep @LexaCola2 We redevelop ourselves as male or female. So it's really not a slam dunk like you think. The actual thing you're looking for is this: You are male or female based on how society has coercively gendered you. Intersex people can be trans. Actually, all trans people are intersex.

@JFr4ser @G79Berg @Draconianwrath_ @zaelefty I'm not claiming they're male. You're speculating they're female, despite having a testicle. I'm making the point that you don't know one way or the other and that they're an example of a viable state of observable, quantifiable intersex

@ThePosieParker In my Nat 5 English class (GCSE equivalent) we read The Handmaid’s Tale. Most people in the class were 14 years old. No surprise, I found it incredibly disturbing and weird at that age.

@shadeycat247 @Draconianwrath_ @Woman_AHF @zaelefty Activists use it, and have spread it's use as much as they can in the public sphere, unfortunately. Scentists don't use it anymore. It is far too confusing. Not all people with the conditions involved are happy with what the activists have done.

@Uggg @NChaleunphone @zaelefty @PTElephant Yes, there are and that is thanks to activist groups joining in with the trans activists. They might do some good, but many also spread misinformation and confusion. Just using the term " intersex" is confusing enough. That is why scientists don't use it.

@NChaleunphone @zaelefty @PTElephant Would you be embarrassed to learn there are a large number of DSD advocacy groups that still use intersex in their name? Dozens and dozens. Intersex is common usage and no longer a misnomer. Went out around 2006, replaced by DSD, and came back ~2015 Google it dumbfuck.

@Daisycat32 @cervixen "female due to their development. Chromosomes are not a definition of sex" I wholeheartedly agree. It's down to development, because it includes hormone treatment. I think most TERFs would disagree with you though.

The Gender-Critical or "TERF" Position is a materialist analysis of sex, gender, and women’s rights. It is not a theory of hatred toward trans-identified people. It is a claim about the importance of sex as a real, human, and materially significant category in law, language, medicine, safeguarding, sport, and feminism. Trans activists often misrepresent the views of GC feminists, sex realists and TERFs becaue honesty would cause them to lose the argument. The following is an attempt to represent my position as a gender critical, sex realist and radical feminist precisely so it is easier to see when that view is being intentionally misrepresented and/or understood by bad faith representatives of trans activism. I know my own position better than anyone. Bad faith is presuming to tell me what my own position is in order to discredit me. That's worse than a strawman, and the main tactic of gender essentialist activism. Here is my actual position: the only position I need to defend: 1. Sex is real and materially significant Sex in human beings is not an identity, a feeling, a role, or a personality type. It is a reproductive and developmental category: male and female are the two human sex classes that are the means of human reproduction. Male is the sex class organized around the development of small, mobile gametes and female is the sex class organized around the development of large, immobile gametes. This does not mean every person is fertile, typical, or currently capable of reproduction. Infertility, menopause, hysterectomy, castration, DSDs, injury, age, or illness do not erase sex. Sex is not a human performance and there is no standard for sex beyond teproductive role. Sex is a human condition and an innate, immutable attribute of the human body. Gender-critical feminists reject the idea that sex is “assigned at birth” in the sense of being invented, guessed, or arbitrarily imposed by authority. In ordinary cases, sex is observed and recorded. Even in rare, extraordinary cases with ambiguous secondary sex characteristics, with modern instrumentation, the primary atrribute of sex is observable at the definitive level beyond the crude level of external genitalia at the cellular level. 2. Women are female human beings In this framework, “woman” means an adult human female. “Girl” means a juvenile human female. This definition does not depend on femininity, beauty, clothing, sexual behaviour, reproductive capacity, compliance, heterosexuality, or conformity to stereotypes. A woman can be masculine, feminine, lesbian, bisexual, heterosexual, celibate, infertile, disabled, old, young, gender-nonconforming, or medically atypical. She remains a woman because she is female. The position is therefore not that women must look, act, dress, think, or feel a certain way. It is the opposite: women should be free from the sex-based stereotypes traditionally imposed on female people. 3. Gender is not sex Radical feminism distinguishes sex from gender. Sex refers to the embodied, biological male/female distinction. Gender refers to the social roles, stereotypes, expectations, behaviours, and hierarchies imposed on people because of sex. Gender-critical feminism does not seek to preserve gender roles. It seeks to abolish their coercive power. A feminine male does not become female. A masculine female does not become male. No one should have to change sex category, medically alter their body, or adopt a new identity to be allowed to reject sexist expectations. Continued...

@gd_ouder @gonochoric @zaelefty It is a disorder that affects males, resulting in a switch to female development. So the end result is female. They wouldn't have any advantage in sports that would be outside the genetic advantages that other females can have. I had light periods, didn't stop me doing anything.

@gonochoric @Daisycat32 @zaelefty Biology: disordered development is not sex. Medical: female development is not affected by CAIS; male development obviously is, thoroughly. Sports: genes and dosage causing sexual dimorphism e.g. in stature are still present, and several female disadvantages in sports aren't.

@Kay88120831 @cervixen It is organised in the same way a fertile person's body is. It doesn't have to be functional. An infertile person doesn't have a completely different body. The sexes are reproductive categories and that is the only reason men and women have different bodies.

@cervixen Your definition of sex is entirely circular and vacous. To define sex, you use the phrase "sex class" "organized around" gamete reproduction. But the body of someone who is infertile isn't organized around any gamete production
