My statement on the arrests of journalists Georgia Fort and Don Lemon.

I got off our emergency House Dems virtual caucus meeting a little earlier, where I was grateful to hear from Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and Governor Tim Walz, two former House colleagues, about what they’re encountering in dealing with the administration’s lawlessness on the streets of Minneapolis. Important steps are being taken by the AG’s office to preserve evidence and ensure justice for Alex Pretti, and we’ve already seen a court order to do just that thanks to AG Ellison’s quick action. All eyes are now on the Senate as members face pending action on Department of Homeland Security appropriations. It’s not a hard choice - I made it last week - vote no. Don’t be complicit. I’m also encouraged by the news that more and more colleagues are joining me in co-sponsoring articles of impeachment against Secretary Noem.

I congratulate Minnesota @AGEllison for securing a federal court order requiring DHS/ICE to preserve evidence and stop obstructing justice in the investigation of the killing of Alex Pretti. That a court had to intervene to ensure compliance with the law is a sad testament to how far this administration is willing to go to shield federal agents from scrutiny and accountability. nytimes.com/live/2026/01/2…

I just got off a call with Governor Walz, Attorney General Keith Ellison, and many of my House Democratic colleagues. Here are my takeaways: First, we will not forget – or let the Administration distort – who Renee and Alex were. Renee Good was a wife and mother of three who had just dropped off her 6-year-old son at school. Alex Jeffrey Pretti was an ICU nurse at a VA hospital who spent his last moments caring and standing up for his community. They are just two of far too many people who have lost their lives to the weaponization of ICE.  Second, we are demanding a complete, swift, and independent investigation of the tragedies that have occurred at the hands of ICE in Minnesota. A judge has already ordered DHS to hand over evidence, and just last night, a federal judge blocked the Trump Administration from destroying or altering any evidence. Secretary Noem must comply. These atrocities cannot go unanswered. Third, we must hold the line. Senate Democrats have announced that they will also vote NO on blank checks to DHS and ICE. I have voted NO on funding to DHS, I have called for the impeachment of Secretary Noem, and I will continue to use every tool at my disposal to ensure justice and accountability. These videos are gutwrenching. The headlines can leave us feeling hopeless. But, please continue to lean in and stay engaged. What gives me hope are the organizers in Minnesota, the clergy members who sang hymns and prayed at Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport, and all those who are peacefully protesting and braving the bitter cold to make clear that ICE has no place in their communities. Here in Maryland, we will continue to show our solidarity, show up, and speak up. Know your rights. Hold the line. Stay safe.

Federal and state investigators meticulously examined the crimes Bock and her accomplices committed. Bock alone is responsible for her own actions, which was proven in court beyond a shadow of a doubt, and her claim about AG Ellison is a lie without a shred of evidence behind it.

She is a liar, fraudster, and manipulator of the highest order who has never acknowledged or accepted her guilt. Now, she’s on a media tour to deflect her guilt onto others instead of taking responsibility for the fraud scheme she ran.

Treating the words of a convicted fraudster like Aimee Bock as though they have any credibility is shocking, and running a story based on them is irresponsible journalism.

As the man who successfully prosecuted George Floyd's murderer, AG @KeithEllison has proven he NEVER backs down in pursuit of justice. This is no different.

Let me be clear: fraud is unacceptable and individuals responsible for it should be prosecuted. I’ve been holding fraudsters and scammers accountable for years and will continue to do so.

The Trump administration is threatening funding for the essential childcare services that countless families across Minnesota rely on — apparently all on the basis of one video on social media. To say I am outraged is an understatement.

I’ve spent my life fighting to make Minnesota a fairer place where everyone can live with dignity, safety, and respect. From lowering drug costs to holding corporations accountable, I’ll always stand up for Minnesotans.

Labor Day is a powerful reminder of the debt we owe to the American labor movement. We are strongest when our workers are respected, paid well, and treated fairly. It was great to honor and celebrate the legacy of the labor movement with so many folks at our annual BBQ yesterday.
