@GPUsAreMagic
Helping make GPUs faster, hobby semicon/FPGAs and too much Minecraft. Opinions are my own, nowadays I mostly rant. Also on https://t.co/dulcLVhvfX

@compguru910 I'm using a TUF A14 (AI 7 350 + 5060) since I mainly needed an ultrabook that can occasionally game.
I'm amazed what Asus managed (noise from reviews seems similar to the 7i Pro, albeit less power to deal with) but ultimately there is only so much you can do in a 1.45kg laptop.
English

@GPUsAreMagic I will say though, I recently switched to a Legion 7i Pro with a 5080 and 275hx, and as far as gaming laptops go, that one is by far the best for acoustics.
English

@yoColinZ @IanCutress SOCAMM also in general has a more suitable size/outline for servers to stack more of them in a smaller footprint, contrary to the silly PMIC notch on LPCAMM.
English

@yoColinZ @IanCutress It is very similar, but more server focused.
AFAIK:
LPCAMM had some issues with reaching high speeds (one of the reasons why the Framework StrixHalo machines are soldered instead of LPCAMM), so NVIDIA more or less made their own SOCAMM which is now being standardized as SOCAMM2.

@kokolordas I'm glad this doesn't really affect me much given Discord's competence at fixing bugs. I only really enable the dGPU when I know I will be using it for games or something heavy, otherwise it stays fully powered off to save a few extra watts compared to idle standby.
English

@GPUsAreMagic every time i buy a new laptop and trying to maximize battery life by doing the same thing as you, i get reminded what a PoS software discord is :)
English

Btw Discord closed the issue as "fixed" 2 weeks after reporting it, no option to follow up, the bug is still NOT fixed in the latest canary build as of today, 2 months after the issue was closed.
And no response in support DMs when I asked about it 🙂
Nemez@GPUsAreMagic
Interesting @discord bug I just noticed (CC: @discord_support) At startup, Discord lights up ALL GPUs in the system briefly, that's fine, the problem is it never properly un-initializes them. So I see 0% load, no VRAM usage, but the dGPU in my laptop can't enter sleep.
English

@IanCutress At least you know not to expect internet and prep for it unlike me on the train a few weeks ago spending half the train ride just turning data and hotspot off and on repeatedly to make it pick up again 😂

@KBobTech @IanCutress @Fujitsu_Global With a 31Wh battery? Idk about that, on top of it being a health hazard just like any other PWM or otherwise flickering display.

@IanCutress Was very much running button nav on android, immediately got used to swipe gestures on iOS.
Work android phone is now set to gestures since having both confuses me to no end. Android gesture nav is just extremely poorly implemented and bad compared to iOS IMO.
English

1000%. I need immediate, dedicated functionality. I also want the return of physical left and right click buttons on laptops.
Shishir@ShishirShelke1
Does anyone still use 3-button navigation? 🤔
English

@MillerTimeDog @IanCutress Had a bit of spare time and was in the mood to do some (very crude and basic) storage testing.
About what I expected from dailying these drives, minus the 9100 PRO apparently hating VM-amplified mixed I/O, but the startup time represents daily use quite well IMO.

English

@GPUsAreMagic @IanCutress Gotcha.
So no point chasing one down.
Funny with my DDR5 rigs doesn't seem to matter anyways because just posting is 30 seconds now.
English

Just rock Optane. Proper Optane. If you can. There are dozens of us!

Hello Fiber, finally 😆
Despite all the really annoying issues and initial mistakes in the deployment, @TMobile_CZE support people were all amazing and handled it REALLY well
Maybe a little untrained when it comes to specialty things like bridge + public IP, but overall amazing

English

@MillerTimeDog @IanCutress That makes two of us...
I guess in that sense I'm lucky modded Minecraft is still a single-threaded insanity making it measurably beneficial to buy the latest CPU every generation LOL (Zen 5 was a nice 40%+ uplift over Zen 4 there) 😂
English

@GPUsAreMagic @IanCutress Yeah I figured I just have an itch to tinker and PC hardware hasnt had many reasons to have fun for seemingly 4+ years.
Intel going backwards, AMD ghosted on its 9950X3D2...
Apparently my 13900 is gonna still be bleeding edge in 2030 the way things are going. (Optane too)
English

@MillerTimeDog @IanCutress Ah of course, I remembered the T710 review but forgot they removed the P5800X from that review and didn't check before posting.
From the 9100 PRO review, by proxy the T710 is also quite similar to the Optane in this benchmark.

@MillerTimeDog @IanCutress As tested by ServeTheHome in SPECworkstation Storage here servethehome.com/crucial-t710-2…
Optane isn't necessarily the universal king of the hill anymore. Ofc still wins in raw 1T RND4K, no doubt, but "real world" it is a bit more complex.
