@FreddyInSpace I still remember getting comments on a negative review I wrote about a film with a director with a fervent fanbase. I was accused of everything from racism to hating on the director. Meanwhile I had written a positive review for a film by the same director earlier the same year.

It's strange to me that honest unfavorable criticism has become lumped in with "negativity" and "hating" in recent years. If we're not allowed to (pleasantly!) talk about what we like and what we don't like, there's not much reason for any of us to be talking about movies online.

@htniemiec @straczynski Oddly happened to me with @straczynski. Saw him speak at SDCC. Got in line with my hardback copy of The Complete Book of Scriptwriting and then chickened out before I got too far in the line. “Never meet your heroes.”

Somebody ask a happy question that doesn't involve recapitulating every question that's been asked about the movie several dozen times over the last 72 hours.

@Riknight36 When my students approach me to tell me they need to do something I tell them that’s interesting but not my problem. When they actually ask, I almost always instantly approve it. Telling me what you need isn’t asking.

Most of my students say, "I need..." Rather than, "May I please borrow...?" And my response to the former is always, "That's a shame." It's only when they start with the latter that I give them what they ask. Do parents not teach their children "please" and "thank you" anymore?
