Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has already signed 27 bills into law following a busy legislative session, with dozens more awaiting his signature and a wide range of new rules set to reshape daily life across the Sunshine State. Some of the most significant changes include renaming Palm Beach International Airport to the "President Donald J. Trump International Airport" effective July 1, sweeping new restrictions on where convicted sex offenders can live and loiter near children, dramatically harsher penalties for child sexual abuse material offenses including mandatory minimum sentences and a new life felony charge for the most serious cases, and major revisions to the Florida Election Code that eliminate student IDs and debit cards as acceptable voter identification and require legal status to appear on driver's licenses. The election law changes don't take effect until January 1, 2027, giving the state time to implement the sweeping new requirements. Other notable laws already signed cover everything from a new Parkinson's disease registry requiring physicians to report diagnoses statewide, to a farm equipment "lemon law" giving buyers recourse against defective machinery, to new rules barring cities from banning gas-powered landscaping equipment. A terrorism-focused bill creates a formal state process for designating domestic and foreign terrorist organizations, bans universities from using state funds to support programs advocating for such groups, and requires the immediate expulsion of any public university student who promotes a terrorist organization. Florida also officially replaced its state flagship from the schooner Western Union to the S.S. American Victory.
