@Eric_Alterman A lot of people struggle with the idea that both of these statements can be true. "Antisemitism exists." "There are valid criticisms to be made of Israel's leadership and record."

That sentence is actually perfectly true. also your point is true also some critics of Israel are also antisemitic also some Jews are also antisemitic though mostly the argument is used to silence critics of of Israel, people like Tucker are actually both So that's a problem
John Ganz@lionel_trolling

@HalSinger Tucker Carlson is absolutely an antisemite

@yeselson @LarrySabato @MichaelMcGough3 Not hard to imagine Fetterman doing what Lieberman did and running an Indie campaign as an anti-left "centrist." He seems genuinely disgusted with the idea Democrats won't give Trump a blank check.

@TanaGaneva @HistoryBoomer What they're selling is that you can have everything you want if you're just strong enough to demand it and treat everyone who isn't dedicated to indulging your appetites as a loser and impediment - especially women. No vision of shared humanity, just raw power and consumption.

The ouroborous here is that they make it clear the women in bikinis are endless, interchangeable, and therefor lacking in value. So when "girls in bikinis" = no real value, then what value are they selling? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Whatever I don't get it, I try to stay away from the stories just like whatever is going with Peter Thiel and the Antichrist, it makes me feel crazy when I follow it too much.

@DavidKlion I've probably already sent you this Hannah Arendt quote but oh well. Sometimes I think about what an Israel that actually wanted to live in peace would look like. I hope I live to see it.

The morally indefensible decisions Jewish institutions and leaders have made over years re Palestine have predictably put every Jew on earth at risk. I don't want to see Jewish civilians (me, my friends, my family) attacked. But I expect it to happen a lot more often now.

BROWDER: "Putin has made huge mistakes. This war is just a gigantic catastrophic mistake. A US think tank calculated his financial losses at about $700 billion. His personnel losses are 1.2 to 1.3 million men either dead or disabled, plus another million who have left the country. He’s lost Syria, Iran, Venezuela—not to mention Armenia. To the extent that he wanted to contain NATO, he’s got two new NATO members on his borders: Sweden and Finland. The economy is in a complete tailspin. It’s a catastrophe on every possible level for Vladimir Putin. If he was thinking this was some smart move, he’s set Russia back generations with his evil invasion of Ukraine."

@AdarWeinreb This war was being sold as over the moment it began. The Iraq war was launched in 3/2003 and was still popular enough by 11/2004 that it was an asset for Bush's reelection campaign. It wasn't until 11/06 electoral consequences finally came - ~44 months later.

≈70% of Americans supported the war with Iraq. ≈30% of Americans support the war with Iran. The Iraq war triggered record anti-war protests across the US. You'd expect even larger protests now, yet they seem almost nonexistent Anyone have a theory as to why?

@tactipus_ @isaiah_bb The politics on Newsroom were interesting, but the relationships were nearly unwatchable. Jeff Daniels and his producer's tumultuous romance being the best (worst) example. But I agree Olivia Munn crushed her role, as did several others.

@fawfulfan But Elizabeth Warren (2020) and Bernie Sanders (2016/20) ran into the same problem, as did Obama before the Iowa primaries (2008). Democrats love candidates who speak to us like a college professor, but Obama was the only one who was able to turn that into high black support.

Yeah, that's just wildly wrong. Buttigieg frequently gets zero or near zero among Black voters in presidential straw polls, but that's very different from saying zero percent of Black voters "approve" of him. It means he's got low name ID and isn't their first choice.
Erline Andrews@ErlineP

This line in @TheAtlantic's Pete Buttigieg profile is not true: "Black voters approve of Buttigieg at a rate of about zero percent." Perpetuating this falsehood is harmful for multiple reasons. @gcaw

@Texnolans @DavidKlion @daniela__127 @WobblyBits_X This is exactly what I want for Israel. Unfortunately under Netanyahu they have done a great deal to undermine peace. This includes supporting the terror group Hamas to prevent a moderate Palestinian Authority from gaining a state and supporting west bank settler violence.

@JoshZ2012 @DavidKlion @daniela__127 @WobblyBits_X I don't think Israel wants to be subject to a global delegitamization campaign, it wants to live in peace like any other country, but unfortunately has had neighbors dedicated to its destruction.

Fundamentally, antizionist Jews are bitter that they are essentially cast out of mainstream Jewish society. The Gaza War represented their best opportunity to persuade Jewish institutions to less openly support Israel. The opposite has happened, and they’re lashing out.
David Klion@DavidKlion

I don't like it either, but the near-unanimous decision of American Jewish institutions to back Israel through genocide is at least as responsible as the Trump administration is. Every synagogue and community center flying an Israeli flag has made us all less safe, and for what?

@speechboy71 @daanielaaguilar The US Secretary of State and others have said flatly what Israel's role was. Attacking people for responding to those statements as though they're true is insane.

Michael A. Cohen (NOT TRUMP’S FORMER FIXER)
Yes, it's Netanyahu, but for many people Israel is synonymous with Jews ... and this kind of argument (that Israel is pulling the strings on the Iran war) feeds anti-Semitism. Moreover, that Bibi has sway is certainly true .. that we are fighting the war on Israel's behalf or, as Gallego said, these decisions are being made in Jerusalem goes much further. I know nuance can sometimes be tough on Twitter, but all I'm saying is that folks like Gallego need to understand how these types of accusations can be weaponized against Jews.

Michael A. Cohen (NOT TRUMP’S FORMER FIXER)
The idea that Jews wield power behind the scenes pushing governments into conflicts that benefit them is a long-standing anti-Semitic trope/conspiracy theory (trotted out repeatedly for example during the Iraq War) and Rubio’s ludicrous and easily disprovable statement plays precisely into that conspiracy theory. Gallego’s phrasing wasn’t “provocative.” It was (perhaps unwittingly) promoting the idea that Jerusalem (aka Jews) are the ones pulling the strings on the Iran war … a war by the way that the US has clearly been planning for months and as Rubio said in the same statement “needed to happen.” That so many otherwise smart people are refusing to acknowledge this - or are perhaps unaware of this long-standing anti-Semitic trope - is bewildering and frankly depressing.

@HeerJeet Also, the mid-90s was when MP3s turned the music industry inside out. Record store sales collapsed just like DVD sales would a decade later, robbing studios and artists of much of their revenue. It's also the same digitalization > free expectation that would hit newspapers.

@DavidKlion @daniela__127 Struggling to convey this to my right wing relatives. For them rising antisemitism means we must offer Israel unqualified support. The idea Israel's belligerence makes jews less safe everywhere seems like an impossible fact to convey.

@daniela__127 The institutions may have stayed pro Israel but the public, in both parties and also worldwide, has turned sharply against it. This is going to be disastrous for Jews everywhere, as we all get blamed for energy price spikes, U.S. casualties, and more.
