@PirateSoftware Rest in peace, Mocha :(

Mocha passed during the night. He came to us at 10 months old back in 2023. He was suffering from DIM (Disseminated Idiopathic Myofasciitis) which is a rare condition that kills within days to weeks. We opted for an experimental chemotherapy to save his life. Against all odds it worked and he went on to live happily with other members of the rescue for many years. There isn't enough research available for DIM and because of that the connection with future complications like this are largely unknown. Most ferrets aren't even diagnosed with DIM before it kills them as many vets have never seen it before and there aren't widespread standards to treat it. We need more information to help fight this and the only way to get that is with time. I wish there was anything else we could have done here to give him a better chance. Detection and treatment just never seem to move fast enough to keep up with aggressive conditions. My hope is that our rescue can shorten the time between those and save more lives. It's like fighting the ocean but I know it's worth it in the end. On a personal level I'm just mad. He already beat the worst hand possible and now this happens to him anyway. Loss and grief are different for everyone and they never gets easier to handle. Just need to get used to the world without him in it.
