Carrick’s tactics often involve one fullback tucking in to create a 3-2-5 or 2-3-5 shape in possession. Lewis-Skelly is the perfect "connector" for this. He doesn't need to be an elite crosser because his job would be to move into the pivot, keep the ball moving, and let the wingers or a more offensive right-back handle the width. If you sign Lewis-Skelly, you’ve essentially signed a backup LB and a rotation #6/#8 in one player. His ability to break lines from deep is elite—he is such a special player.
