@t25040 @rpg_haven @provisionalidea 😬 there were times darker, much older, than SQL... but everything that I've which predates it doesn't have a great concept of things like "indexes" anyway...
English

@zMarcusAurelius I can say a lot more than that but you genuinely wouldn't understand it.
100% normalization of data is incorrect.
English

If you find that a database has rampant duplicate issues and the only thing you can say is "well sometimes it just like that!" instead of "that's a sloppy database" then you are the problem.
James Rosen-Birch ⚖️🕊️@provisionalidea
TIL Elon has never used SQL
English

@MichaelDChaney @provisionalidea @BorisBartlog Well it's been too long because every fuckwit that's ever had a select statement reach prod knows that data is almost never 100% normalized.
I know "musk is achtually smart" raises your status among fellow bootlickers, but to IT professionals you sound like a fucking retard
English

@provisionalidea @BorisBartlog Musk has obviously worked with relational databases at PayPal. I know “musk is an idiot” raises your status among leftists, but to normal people it makes you look silly.
English

@Treyman77768 @selinawangtv lol lmao
you dumb motherfucker
English

@selinawangtv No one GAF about Columbia. We can grow our own coffee beans. Problem solved
English

@OkayWordsByJoel @Treyman77768 @selinawangtv public humiliation is one of the few things these idiots respond to
English

@Treyman77768 @selinawangtv a screenshot of this is making the rounds on Bluesky and everyone's laughing so hard, but I'm not sure how I feel of making fun of people for being terminally stupid
English

@KrulestwoHK @tamarajtran @googlecloud AWS would've had someone on the phone that same day
I don't have time to fuck around for a week getting a new person every time, but I actually have work to do so 🤷
English

@tamarajtran They're trying to charge $61k to a credit card lol
This feels more like their problem than yours. It will get someone's attention eventually...
English

The project had been downgraded for some time but when I randomly upgraded the project in October, there was a bug in the code from an Upwork engineer. The app accidentally stored 1PB of data in GCS despite only running on Oct 18.
I woke up to my card declining a $61,200 charge and immediately downgraded the project.
English

@tamarajtran These constant horror stories are why I NEVER consider @googlecloud products
English

@MakerInParadise @LibertyTemen @wildcardschoon 100% agree on the technocracy part, and as a tech it makes me ill.
but I really think that's an *optimistic* short term outlook. in fact, I think we're already there.
we've been juiced on ZIRP and it sucked to come down. when infinite growth ends? too many houses made of cards.
English

@LibSoci @LibertyTemen @wildcardschoon I don’t know about the WHOLE economy but we’re definitely moving towards eradicating the middle class in the west. Eventually American society will be a technocracy above a underclass of poor people who the rich cherry-pick kids with potential from early in life.
English

@LibertyTemen @wildcardschoon @MakerInParadise this whole economy is shitfucked once "infinite growth" stops.
we almost crashed the global economy in 2008 when we gambled too hard about housing going up forever.
When the world population peaks it's so over. Total paradigm shift.
English

@wildcardschoon @MakerInParadise You really don’t realize that social security is set to become insolvent as soon as the US population stops growing huh
English

@AndyXAndersen @Grady_Booch I think all of us in the industry realize how cool it is
but it's not AGI lol
English

@Grady_Booch I think the hype is high. But discounting all the work done in the last 5 years is short-sighted.
o3 is getting to the point where it can function reliably in areas having models and verification. As a computer scientist, you are aware just how hard that is to pull off.
English

@tc_emdee @Angry_Staffer Yes. I sound happy. and anticipatory. that makes one of us.
English

@risknc @gr8lordchungus "CAD monkies don't exist because in my narrow extremely high tech field I haven't seen them"
ok
English

@gr8lordchungus Oh sorry. Most of my experience has been modern companies (started out at SpaceX).
I'm sure there are companies that finished their product dev in the 80's that still operate like the companies from the 50's they were modeled after cause engineering was gutted and mfg took over
English

@StevenMarcen @simulxxx @graceongrid same thought. I'll bet it makes a lot more sense when you factor in family incomes tho. In fact, I'll bet that's the driving factor behind the entire infographic.
Just another box of Oops! All Income Brackets!
English

@simulxxx @graceongrid That was the figure I was going to look up. Honestly much lower than I would have guessed
