How Finland solved homelessness

Netherlands has appointed its first openly gay and youngest prime minister. The new dutch government was sworn in on Monday (23 February), with Rob Jetten becoming the country’s youngest and first openly gay prime minister. Jetten, who is the leader of the Democrats 66 (D66), won in the October elections last year, dethroning the far-right Freedom Party (PVV). He succeeds Dick Schoof, whose government collapsed in the summer of 2025, leading to snap elections. The 38-year-old centrist’s D66 has teamed up with the centre-right Christian Democratic Appeal CDA party and the liberal People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) to form a coalition. However, they will fall nine seats short of a parliamentary majority with only 66 seats, meaning Jetten will depend on opposition support. His campaign has been successful partly due to a surge in advertising that has pushed a message of “yes, we can”, enabling the party to focus on divisive issues such as immigration and the housing crisis. As part of the party’s image transformation, Jetten challenged far-right leader Geert Wilders, hitting out at him for only standing up for LGBTQ+ rights in a bid to villainise Muslims. In an Instagram post on Monday, Jetten wrote: “Proud to be able to do this together. In a new phase, with a great responsibility and above all a joint promise to work for everyone in the Netherlands.” The post has been flooded with well wishes and green hearts.

While Christmas is a time of gifts and abundance of food for many families, these children have to go through life without family day in and day out. Thanks to Ike and your support, they don't have to beg for food every day. With all the risks of abuse and recruitment by Boko Haram. Support these kids in 2026 as well. The Honourable Judy Sgro @honjudysgro rose today in the Canadian Parliament and denounced the heartbreaking case of Zahra Shahbaz Tabari #Zahra_Tabari : "who has been sentenced to death by the Iranian regime. Her so-called trial lasted only ten minutes and was conducted via video conference. She was denied the right to legal representation and sentenced to death based on fabricated evidence, a piece of cloth bearing the words #Woman_Resistance_Freedom and an unpublished voice message. This is not justice. It is a cruel and calculated act of repression by a regime that continues to persecute its own people, especially women, for daring to speak out. Zahra is just one among many similar cases in #Iran this year alone. We stand in solidarity with the Iranian community and all those who continue to suffer under the brutality of the clerical regime. We call for freedom, democracy, and justice for the people of Iran." 🙏We thank The Honourable Judy Sgro for her powerful statement in Parliament and her courageous defense of human rights. By raising the case of Zahra Shahbaz Tabari, unjustly sentenced to death in Iran, The Honourable Sgro exemplifies principled leadership and compassion. Her steadfast commitment to freedom, democracy, and human dignity inspires Canadians and the global Iranian community alike. Thank you, Ms. Sgro, for standing with truth and humanity. #StopExecutionsInIran @UN_HRC @drmaisato @Volker_Turk @UNHumanRights @CanadianPM @CanadaFP @AnitaAnandMP @SenatorHousakos @jamesbezan @GarnettGenuis @MichaelChongMP @honjudysgro @DanMuysMP @SenMacDonald @vincentneilho @CostasMenegakis @annarobertsmp @Daveeppckl @MarcDalton @RonMcKinnonLib @SenatorAlZaibak @BillyMorinECN @PLawrenceCAN @LapointeLinda @SukhDhaliwal @ChakAuRichmond @VincentNeilHo @MichaelCooperMP @MelissaLantsman @CdnPressNews #cdnpoli @CTVNews @globalnews @CBCNews @TheTorontoSun @globeandmail @nationalpost @TorontoStar @CityNewsTO🙏
