Although my junior choir was not officially on duty at church today, I was delighted to see one of them in the congregation this morning and another, with his parents - not previously churchgoers - at Evensong. THAT’s what happens when you get kids engaged with church music!

I'm devastated to read this. What @salsachoirboy has achieved with @StJohnsVoices is simply extraordinary; why get rid of one of the best mixed voice choirs in Cambridge? Particularly sad given the strides they have made towards gender equality in @SJCChoir; accepting girl choristers doesn't eliminate the need for more opportunities for adult sopranos. It feels a bit like they're giving with one hand and taking away with the other. Please reconsider this decision, @stjohnscam.

This sets an alarming precedent. Monday evensongs are occasions of beauty and solace, illuminated by the excellence of SJV and the inimitable @salsachoirboy. The idea of a quiet night in chapel does not justify the removal of such an incredible choir. This should be reversed.

1/ Dad wrote his setting in 1954 at the request of Novello’s who asked him for a more contemplative work following the success of the lively Torches. I found this manuscript with publisher’s edits when going through his archive.

We are having a fantastic first week of services with our new Director of Music, Chris Gray: welcome!
We began with the tranquil polyphony of Palestrina's Missa Papae Marcelli, and we're also preparing some of Handel's Coronation Anthems to mark the Coronation with @AAMorchestra
