@dead_baseball I understand how withholding works. My lower middle class taxes went up under trump. It is also true, as i claim no exemptions, witholding used to be enough to cover my burden. Now it is not. That changed in Trump 1. My state withholding did not change.

How can people not understand what you owe/get refunded at tax filing has nothing to do with what you were taxed on the year. It's just the difference between your withholding and taxes. A story like this just brings up more questions, which I'm guessing they won't answer.
THE Ram U@CSURamT

Did my taxes this weekend. Nothing like being middle class w/ 2 dependents, own a home, max out 401K, HSA & FSA contributions, and don't claim any deductions in my paycheck, but still owe $6K... The new Trump tax plan seems to cost me more every year.

I refuse to believe you guys don't see the problem here. It's one thing for the Europeans not to provide direct support for the operation. It's another for France to deny the use of its airspace for cargo deliveries or for the UK to muddle over domestic base usage. There is no point in being in an alliance that can't provide such basic guarantees of cooperation.

@lydiakauppi I question the "cities are scary" narrative. I avoid Minneapolis/St.Paul because it's not my thing. I have no reason to go there. Also I don't disagree that there is some selective justice going. Not my problem as I just avoid it. No reason to spend money there.

@LisaDemuthMN Good idea! Can we start with the Republican senator who made 400 million off the largest Medicare fraud ever? Then we’d know you’re serious and might believe this is something other than politics

Fraudsters being punished for stealing our tax dollars is only part of the equation. Minnesotans need to see the stolen dollars returned. My colleague, Rep. Andrew Myers, has an important bill that's moving through the House that would increase the number of years the state has to charge for crimes and to claw back money stolen in Medicaid fraud from 6 years to 10 years. It would be wise for our Democrat colleagues and Gov. Walz to get on board.
Bill Glahn@billglahn

Anti-fraud bills move at the Capitol HF 4425, a bill by state rep Andrew Myers (R-45A), would extend the statute of limitations on state prosecutions of Medicaid fraud from six years to ten. americanexperiment.org/anti-fraud-bil…

Minnesotan here ✋🏻 Just dropping by to say that no one in this state is surprised by this sentence. If a white native-born Minnesotan like me stole $3 million in taxpayer money, Walz and his DFL cronies would crucify us - publicly tar and feather us, seize every asset, lock us up for decades, and unleash their rabid mobs to endlessly harass our entire family. The idea that we’d get one year and a day in prison while only paying back $123K and walking away with the rest is laughable. It’s just (D)ifferent, rights guys?

Feeding Our Future defendant Abdul Abubakar Ali will serve one year and one day in prison for his role in the $250 million fraud scheme. kstp.com/kstp-news/top-…

@Morrysetty @TaconiteRed While yes, it is true that the Biden administration actively prosecuted fraud cases (where the Trump administration has already pardoned over 70 people convicted of fraud) the sentencing of Mr. Ali was held Monday, under the DoJ headed by Mrs. Bondi. Would you show me, please,

@LordOfTheDivX @SandyofCthulhu Hey! I would imagine it would be quite easy for you to live with no services. Go do that somewhere. There’s a society cost to doing all those things you do living in…..a society!

Every time you earn or spend gets taxed. Investments? Taxed. Did you sin and buy cigs, booze or gasoline? Bigger taxes. And its unfathomable to people that you try to keep one large possession and hand it down to your family after a lifetime of extortion. Nope that's taxed. God forbid you die, they want that taxed too. Buy gold, live in a box.

But why is it on your house? Why not tax your washing machine. Or your carpet? Or the black velvet paintings handing on your walls? It's completely arbitrary, and seems unfair, particularly because we are ALREADY HEAVILY TAXED for those damn public services.
Rushi@rushicrypto

I’m very confused about the number of people who think “property tax” is a sales tax on you home rather than taxes to pay for public services you use every day. “I paid off my home why do i still pay property taxes?!?!?” Oh, did you also stop using the roads and libraries and sidewalks and parks? Not worried about fires anymore?

@SandyofCthulhu Are you advocating for a VAT? (It is, of course, a tax on your carpet, or lack of it, which is why it’s based off market value (not arbitrary) and you can appeal through your assessor (who’s usually elected.)

Spending $3.2 BILLION on light rail the communities don’t want, when Hennepin County can’t afford to fund HCMC or the Sheriff’s Office, shows how out of touch county officials are with constituents. We could do flexible bus rapid transit for 10% of the cost of fixed rail, NOT destroy the neighborhoods & NOT add to the enormous property tax burden. Common sense should prevail. fox9.com/news/gop-lawma…

What Dems aren’t saying is they want to lift the cap, but NOT increase the benefit. Someone making $184k would pay 12.4% of their income and get ~$4k/mo in retirement. Someone making $1M would pay 12.4% and ALSO get ~$4k in retirement. It’s just a sneaky way of raising taxes.
Senator Patty Murray@PattyMurray

If you make under $184k, you pay a 12.4% Social Security tax rate. Everything after that cap is exempt from the tax. So if you make $1 million per year, you pay about 2.2%. And it's 0.002% for billionaires. If we lifted the cap, Social Security could be funded for decades.

@ronrule If you think the billionaires need a little more retirement security, I’m sure extending the benefit would be fine. Why don’t you tell your favorite congressperson to file that bill?

Yes, Feeding Our Future defendant Abdul Abubakar Ali cooperated with the Feds. But 1 year seems awful light for a financial crime that size. Even worse, the judge had to sentence higher than prosecutors agreed with. They were ok with probation. Not cool.
